Two nights Capitola limited mobility. Wharf? Other?

Booked two nights at Capitola Hotel in May for a quiet getaway. My husband walks short distances with sticks or a roller. He will be content to nap in the hotel while I take longer walks and enjoy the beach. There are restaurants just across the street so that should be easy enough.

We would like to go to the lounge at Shadowbrook (not the dining room) one night via rideshare or taxi. Not looking to go out of Capitola this trip; we are fairly familiar with Santa Cruz and Monterey. I am looking for an easy activity but must be open Monday or Tuesday.

How accessible is the wharf? We do have a parking placard.

Thanks!

Capitola is a lovely spot for a quiet getaway, and it sounds like your plans are well-suited for your husband’s mobility needs while still allowing you to explore.

Capitola Wharf Accessibility:

The Capitola Wharf is relatively short and mostly flat, making it generally accessible for someone using walking sticks or a roller. The main walkway is paved and smooth. Parking is available nearby, and having a placard will help with finding close spots. There are benches along the wharf where your husband can rest and enjoy the views of the bay and boats. A leisurely stroll along the wharf should be very manageable, and you could also enjoy a coffee or snack from one of the nearby shops.

Local Activities (Monday/Tuesday):

  • Walking along the Capitola Esplanade: Flat paths along the beach are easy for limited mobility and offer nice views. Restaurants and cafes are conveniently located along the way.
  • Capitola Village: Strolling through the colorful shops in the village is easy to do at your own pace, with plenty of benches for resting.
  • Beach Access: While sandy beaches are harder to navigate with sticks or a roller, the edge near the boardwalk is usually accessible enough to enjoy views and the sound of the waves without walking far.
  • Shadowbrook Lounge Visit: Taking a rideshare or taxi to Shadowbrook is a great idea. The lounge itself is accessible, and the ride down the hill will allow your husband to enjoy the experience without walking too much.

Other Considerations:

  • If your husband prefers minimal walking, consider sitting at a café or the wharf while you take longer walks along the beach or village streets.
  • Many shops and restaurants in Capitola are ground-level, making them easier to access.
  • Evening strolls along the esplanade are pleasant and calm on weekdays, and seating areas allow for frequent rests.

Overall, Capitola is quite accommodating for limited mobility, and with your plans to stay local and take a rideshare to Shadowbrook, you should both have an enjoyable and relaxing visit.
