Lijiang's Black Dragon Pond, also known as Jade Spring Park, is located at the foot of Elephant Mountain in the north of the city. About one kilometer upstream from Sifang Street in the old town, along the crisscrossing Jade River, you'll find a crystal-clear spring pool, the renowned Black Dragon Pond. Originally a Dragon King Temple in Lijiang, Black Dragon Pond was home to numerous springs, forming a pool. Because the jade-like waters reflect Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, it's also known as "Jade Spring Park." This area serves as the water source for Lijiang Old Town and houses the largest concentration of nationally protected cultural relics in the city. Black Dragon Pond is a prime location for photographing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The image of the Five-Arch Bridge, Deyue Tower, the snow-capped mountains, and their reflection in Black Dragon Pond has become a classic Lijiang postcard and a popular photo spot for tourists. Morning and evening are the best lighting for photographing Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The park's architecture is also a major attraction. For various historical reasons, many important cultural relics from around Lijiang were relocated here.
