Disney has installed new style turnstiles in Disneyland, DCA, and the Downtown Disney Monorail Station. They are also being installed at the Grand Californian Hotel entrance to DCA. These new turnstiles are technically updated to allow guests to scan themselves in rather than having a cast member scan them in.
The scan in works through the Disneyland Resort App where your ticket(s) are located. It's used similar to the way guests scan into a lighting lane queue. There is a screen facing the guest that will show the guest's face in a small round photo. A successful scan takes just a second. The screen shows arrows afterwards indicating to walk through. There are short double doors that will open for the guest to enter. They open automatically and will close again if the guest takes too much time.
Alternatively, a Magic Band can be used instead of a phone. (Which the guest can purchase in the park or Downtown Disney. Requires charging.)
While guests are getting used to this cast members are still there to advise. People may have some trouble adjusting to this change, so be patient with your fellow guests and expect longer lines at entrances.
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure (DCA) have recently introduced new turnstiles at the park entrances, Downtown Disney Monorail Station, and the Grand Californian Hotel entrance to DCA. These turnstiles are designed to allow guests to scan themselves in without requiring a cast member to perform the scan, streamlining the entry process.
The system works primarily through the Disneyland Resort App, where your tickets are stored. Guests simply open their tickets in the app, scan at the turnstile, and a small round photo of their face will appear on the screen to verify the scan. A successful scan takes only a second, after which arrows on the screen indicate that you can walk through. Short double doors open automatically to allow entry and close again if a guest delays too long.
Additionally, guests have the option to use a Magic Band instead of the phone app. Magic Bands can be purchased at the park or in Downtown Disney, but they require charging before use.
Since this is a new system, cast members are still present to provide assistance and guidance. Guests may experience longer lines initially as everyone adjusts to the self-scan process, so patience is encouraged.
Overall, this new entry system is designed to be quick and efficient once guests become familiar with it, but the first few visits may take slightly longer due to learning curves and adjustment times.
