Family Yosemite Trip in July
Hi all.
We are visiting Yosemite July 1-4th or 5th. We are a family of four, with a 14yr old and 11yr old. It's probably too late, but are there any must visit restaurants in the area that I should try and make a reservation for...or other restaurants we need to visit?
Thank you all in advance.

Visiting Yosemite in early July is peak season, so making dining reservations as early as possible is highly recommended. The park has a mix of casual and sit-down restaurants, ranging from family-friendly spots to more refined dining. While many places fill up quickly, there are a few standout options that are worth prioritizing for a family of four with kids.
Inside Yosemite Valley:
- The Ahwahnee Dining Room: Located at The Ahwahnee Hotel, this is the most iconic dining spot in Yosemite. It offers a more formal dining experience with stunning views of Yosemite Valley. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for dinner. The menu includes seasonal dishes, steaks, and kid-friendly options.
- Curry Village Pavilion: A casual, family-friendly option with buffet-style meals. Great for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, especially if you want something quick and kid-friendly without a reservation.
- Degnan’s Kitchen: Ideal for breakfast, sandwiches, and snacks. You can grab coffee, pastries, and quick meals before heading out for hikes or sightseeing.
- Yosemite Valley Lodge Food Court: Convenient for casual dining with burgers, pizzas, and salads. Suitable for families needing a quick meal.
Other Recommendations in the Park:
- Mountain Room Restaurant: At Yosemite Valley Lodge, offers dinner with views of Yosemite Falls. They have options suitable for kids, and it’s less formal than The Ahwahnee.
- Wawona Hotel Dining Room: If you plan to visit Wawona or stay nearby, this is a historic location with classic American cuisine in a charming setting. Reservations recommended for dinner.
- Picnic Options: Given the summer crowds, many families enjoy packing a picnic from local markets or lodges and eating outdoors at scenic spots like Sentinel Meadow or near Yosemite Falls.
Tips:
- Check each restaurant’s online reservation system or call as early as possible, as July is extremely busy.
- For casual meals, visiting during off-peak hours (early lunch or late dinner) can reduce wait times.
- Consider bringing snacks and drinks in your daypack for hikes or valley sightseeing, as lines can get long at peak meal times.
In summary, for a family trip with children, Curry Village, Degnan’s, and Yosemite Valley Lodge offer convenience and kid-friendly meals, while The Ahwahnee Dining Room is an iconic experience worth reserving if you want a memorable dinner.
