Best area to stay.

We are finishing up our baseball stadium tour so we will be going to the Dodgers and Angels games during first week of August. Have kids 18,16,12. We’ve never been to LA. Where do you suggest we stay for the week? We will have a car.

Hello,

Since you will have a car and plan to attend both Dodgers and Angels games, the best area to stay will balance proximity to these stadiums with convenient access to popular Los Angeles attractions, dining, and safe neighborhoods. Los Angeles is very spread out, so no single area is perfect for both games, but with a car, you have flexibility.

Here are the main areas to consider:

  • Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA): Central location with easy freeway access to Dodger Stadium (5–10 min), roughly 40–50 min drive to Angel Stadium in Anaheim depending on traffic. Plenty of hotels, restaurants, and attractions such as The Broad, Disney Concert Hall, and LA Live. Convenient if you want urban exploration.
  • Hollywood / Hollywood Hills: Good mid-city location, about 15 min to Dodger Stadium and 45–50 min to Angel Stadium. Offers iconic sightseeing like the Walk of Fame, Hollywood Bowl, and Griffith Observatory. Hotels are plentiful and it’s a classic “LA” experience.
  • West Hollywood / Beverly Hills: Trendy neighborhoods with good dining and shopping. About 20–30 min to Dodger Stadium and 50–60 min to Angel Stadium. Offers a safe, walkable area for evening strolls and entertainment. A little farther from Anaheim, but manageable with a car.
  • Orange County / Anaheim: If the main priority is Angels games or Disney activities, staying in Anaheim or nearby can reduce driving time. Dodger Stadium would then be 45–60 min away, but you’d be very close to Disneyland Resort and local family-friendly hotels.

Other considerations:

  • Traffic: LA traffic can be heavy, especially in the mornings and late afternoons. Staying closer to your most-attended game may save stress, but with a car, you can manage both stadiums.
  • Family-Friendly Amenities: Look for hotels with free parking and pools to accommodate your kids (ages 12–18). Many DTLA and West Hollywood hotels offer these perks.
  • Evening Safety: Stick to well-lit, populated neighborhoods for evening walks and dining. Downtown and West Hollywood are generally safe in tourist areas.
  • Access to Attractions: If you plan to visit Santa Monica, Venice Beach, or Universal Studios, staying in central or mid-city areas like Hollywood or West Hollywood will reduce drive times.

Recommendation:

  • If Dodgers games are a higher priority and you want a classic LA experience: Downtown LA or Hollywood.
  • If Angels games and Disneyland are more important, or you prefer a quieter stay: Anaheim or Orange County hotels.
  • West Hollywood can serve as a balanced option for sightseeing, dining, and a safer, walkable area, though slightly farther to Angel Stadium.

Overall, with a car, staying in Hollywood, West Hollywood, or DTLA gives the best mix of accessibility to both stadiums and iconic LA attractions while keeping your family comfortable and entertained.
