Booking Tienanmen Square tickets - verification code

Hi, I am desperately trying to book tickets for Tienanmen Square (and other places there) via the official website (already tried via WeChat, same problem).

Unfortunately, after filling my number (+xx yyyyyyyyyy, where +xx stands for international country prefix), I don't receive any verification code to continue the process. I am from Italy (+39).

Does anyone know ho to solve the problem please?

Booking tickets for Tiananmen Square and its surrounding attractions online can be tricky for international visitors, as the official system is primarily designed for Chinese mobile numbers. If you are not receiving the verification code on your Italian number (+39), it is a common issue due to SMS verification restrictions for foreign numbers.

Here are some steps and suggestions to solve the problem:

  • Try using a Chinese SIM card or a local phone number. Many travelers purchase a temporary SIM card upon arrival in China or use one from a friend or hotel.
  • Use WeChat Pay or Alipay linked to a Chinese phone number. Sometimes the verification works when the account is tied to a local number.
  • Check your phone’s international SMS settings. Make sure your carrier allows international SMS and that your phone can receive messages from China.
  • Clear cache and cookies, or try a different browser. Occasionally, the verification system fails due to browser-related issues.
  • Try booking through a third-party ticketing service that accepts international numbers. Many travel agencies and platforms cater to foreign tourists and can provide pre-booked tickets.

Additional recommendations:

  • Book tickets upon arrival in Beijing at official ticket counters. Arrive early as tickets may sell out quickly for popular attractions.
  • Contact the Tiananmen Square official ticket office by email or phone if possible, explaining that you are an international visitor. They may provide an alternative method.
  • Ensure that your phone can receive short international codes; sometimes SMS from China may be blocked by European carriers.

In summary, the issue is usually with international SMS delivery. Using a local Chinese number, third-party services, or booking in person are the most reliable solutions.
