Hotel recos near Superdome and safe walking all over

We are coming in for the weekend of October 3rd for a football game at the Superdome. Would like a hotel within walking distance of there, and also walking distance to the French Quarter and other areas. Haven't been to New Orleans for 30 years and felt safe walking around everywhere. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced (under $250 a night preferably) hotel and great food-music-fun?
