how far into maine from Boston's Logan airport is reasonable

Hello, how far into Maine from Boston's Logan airport is reasonable to drive mid day on a weekday in July? We want to start our drive up the coast but don't want too long of a day. Considering Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, or what are your suggestions? Thanks!

Driving from Boston's Logan Airport to Maine is a pleasant journey, especially along the coast, but the distance you drive depends on how much time you want to spend on the road and how much time you'd like to spend exploring once you arrive.

On a weekday in July, midday traffic can be moderate, especially as you leave the city and head toward the coast. Given that you'll be traveling in the summer, it's wise to plan for some extra time due to potential delays, especially as you approach popular tourist spots.

As for the destinations you mentioned, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport are both excellent choices that are not too far from Boston, making them ideal for a day trip without being overly taxing on your travel time.

  • Ogunquit: About a 1-hour 15-minute drive (about 70 miles). This small coastal town is known for its scenic beaches and the famous Marginal Way coastal walk. It offers great restaurants and a charming vibe.
  • Kennebunkport: A bit further at 1 hour 30 minutes (about 80 miles). Known for its coastal beauty, historic homes, and vibrant shopping and dining scene, this is another great option. It’s a more classic New England town.
  • York: Just about 1 hour 20 minutes (around 60 miles), York offers a quieter, smaller town atmosphere with beaches like Long Sands Beach, and the famous Nubble Lighthouse.
  • Portland: If you're up for a longer drive, Portland is about 2 hours (around 110 miles). It’s a fantastic city with a lively food scene, craft breweries, and historic charm. However, it does push the limits of a "reasonable" first stop if you want a more leisurely day.

Considering your goal to avoid a long drive, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport are the most reasonable options. Both offer picturesque coastal views and a relaxing atmosphere with enough to see and do without feeling rushed.
