2.5 days

We’re travelling down from Orlando by train in July for 3 nights at Miami Beach.

In that time I’m thinking the open top bus to see some sights, boat for millionaires row, id like to see the hard rock hotel.

Other than that would you spend a day on a tour to key west or is that to hard going in such a short time? My husband and son possibly might like to see Miami soccer stadium as we’re Brits

Not bothered about a beach day and no Everglades because our next stop is New Orleans so we’re doing swamp up there instead.

What do you think?

With only 2.5 days in Miami Beach, you’ll want to balance sightseeing without feeling rushed. Miami has a lot to offer, but travel times and summer heat are factors to consider when planning your itinerary.

Your current ideas are very doable and cover some of the main highlights. The open-top bus is a good way to see South Beach, Art Deco District, and other key neighborhoods efficiently. A boat tour of Millionaires’ Row is also popular and gives a unique perspective of the waterfront mansions. Visiting the Hard Rock Hotel can be slotted in as part of a city or entertainment-focused walk, though it’s mainly a photo stop unless you plan to dine or explore inside.

Considering Key West, a day trip from Miami is possible but quite long. Driving takes about 3.5–4 hours each way, so a tour would eat up most of your day. You would likely leave early morning and return late evening, which can be tiring and limit your time enjoying Miami itself. For a short stay, many travelers prefer to focus on Miami and nearby attractions rather than Key West.

For your husband and son, a visit to the Miami soccer stadium (DRV PNK Stadium for Inter Miami CF) can be fun, especially if you can catch a tour or match day atmosphere. It’s worth checking if tours are available during your visit.

Suggested approach to maximize your 2.5 days:

  • Day 1: Arrival and evening stroll on Ocean Drive/South Beach, enjoy Art Deco sights and dinner.
  • Day 2: Open-top bus tour in the morning, boat tour of Millionaires’ Row in the afternoon, optional stop at Hard Rock Hotel.
  • Day 3 (half-day): Miami soccer stadium tour or explore Wynwood Walls/Design District before departure.

By focusing on Miami itself rather than a Key West trip, you’ll reduce travel stress and heat exposure while still seeing major highlights. The city is walkable and using rideshares or public transport will save time between sites.
