Downtown view spots

I’m wondering if anyone knows a spot that can be paid for or is free (such as the top of parking lots that are safe to go to for tourists) and can give me a good view of downtown la and the us bank building. Thank you

Los Angeles has several spots where you can get impressive views of Downtown, including the US Bank Tower, without needing special access. Both paid and free options exist, depending on whether you want convenience or a more adventurous approach.

Here are some recommended paid and free options for viewing Downtown LA:

  • OUE Skyspace LA: Located in the US Bank Tower itself, this is a paid observation deck offering 360-degree views of Los Angeles. There is also a glass slide for the adventurous, and it’s safe and tourist-friendly.
  • Griffith Observatory: While not right next to Downtown, it offers iconic views of the entire city including Downtown LA. Parking is free if you arrive early, and it’s a classic spot for photos.
  • Perch LA: This is a rooftop bar in Downtown LA. While it’s technically a restaurant, paying for a drink gives you access to one of the best downtown views. It’s safe and popular for tourists.
  • OUE Parking Garage / Rooftop Lots: Some downtown parking garages have top levels open to the public and can offer unobstructed views. Check local reviews for safety, as not all are tourist-friendly. Examples include some lots near Pershing Square.

For free street-level viewpoints with some elevation:

  • Bunker Hill Steps and surrounding plazas: Walking along the steps and terraces near the Museum of Contemporary Art gives a clear line of sight to the US Bank Tower and other downtown skyscrapers.
  • Los Angeles City Hall Observation Deck: Free access to the observation deck on the 27th floor provides a 360-degree view of Downtown and surrounding areas. Open during normal business hours, check for any closures.

Tips for visiting:

  • Go early in the morning or later in the evening for better lighting and fewer crowds.
  • Bring a camera or smartphone with a wide-angle lens if possible, as some rooftops have railings that can block parts of the view.
  • Check opening hours and any entrance fees beforehand, especially for paid observation decks.

Overall, for a quick and free downtown view, LA City Hall or Bunker Hill Steps are excellent. For a more iconic and elevated experience, OUE Skyspace LA or Perch are the best options.
