Any restaurants with keto options....like pizza???

I know there are lots of diverse food options in Key West.

Does anyone have any leads on finding some keto friendly options--aside from a burger without buns or grilled chicken and Veges.

Looking so forward to getting back to Key West on Monday-- 7 years is too long.

Thank you.

Great question — finding keto-friendly options in Key West can be a bit of a hunt, especially for something like “pizza,” but there *are* places and strategies that can work well. Here are some suggestions + ideas to help you stay keto-ish while enjoying the Key West food scene.

Where to Get Keto-Friendly / Low-Carb Options in Key West

  • Moondog Cafe & Bakery — While they are known for gluten-free pizzas, some of their menu items might work for a lower-carb profile if you pick the right toppings. For example, their *gluten-free pizza* (artichokes, Kalamata olives, feta, etc.) could be customized.
  • The Key Wester / Health-Food Spots — There are health-food–oriented restaurants and cafés in Key West that focus on salads, bowls, and veggie-forward dishes. While they might not explicitly advertise “keto,” many of their offerings (greens + protein) can be adapted to fit.
  • Date & Thyme Organic Café — This is a popular organic café with fresh, clean eats. According to vegan / health-food guides, it’s a good place for veggie-forward and simple dishes. You can likely do custom orders (e.g., salad + protein) to stay low-carb.
  • Mellow Café & Gastropub — Another spot mentioned for health-conscious dining in Key West with a more relaxed restaurant / bar vibe. Again, think grilled meats, salad or veggie sides rather than pasta or bread.

Why “Keto Pizza” Is Harder in Key West

When people ask for “keto pizza,” what they usually mean is pizza with a super low-carb crust (cauliflower, almond flour, etc.). But in Key West: - There’s no large chain that offers a keto-crust pizza (at least not as of now). - Many of the pizza places focus on *gluten-free crusts* instead, which isn’t necessarily “keto” — gluten-free crusts can still have a lot of carbs. For example, Moondog’s gluten-free crust is a popular GF option, but that doesn’t guarantee keto-level carbs. - Even with gluten-free pizza spots (like Clemente’s or Onlywood), they may not list net carbs, so “keto” is more about custom ordering (pick toppings, skip starchy things) than using a true keto crust.

Tips for Ordering Keto-Style in Key West

  • Ask for customization. When you go to a restaurant, don’t be shy: ask if they can do a “pizza” with no crust or a crustless “pizza bowl” (tomato sauce + cheese + meat + veggies) — some places might be willing to do that.
  • Go with grilled / broiled proteins + veggies. Many Key West places have great seafood, chicken, or steak options, and you can pair them with salad or non-starchy sides. (Reddit users report many restaurants have broiled fish, shrimp, etc.)
  • Watch sauces. Use your keto cheat sheet — sauces and salad dressings often hide sugars, so ask about ingredients.
  • Choose health-focused cafés. Use places like The Key Wester, Date & Thyme, or Mellow Café for their vegetable-forward dishes + protein.
  • Check menus ahead. Many restaurants post their menus online, so you can preview what low-carb modifications might be possible before you go.

Bottom Line

There’s not a “keto pizza chain” in Key West, but you *can* make keto-friendly dining work by being strategic: go with health-food cafés, order grilled proteins + veggies, or try customizing pizza-type dishes. Places like Moondog Café, Date & Thyme, and Mellow Café are among your best bets.
