July weekend trip for Cubs game

My husband and I are bringing our two sons (both in early 20's) to Chicago weekend of 7/18. Doing an architecture river cruise and heading to Wrigley for the p.m. game on 7/19. Is River North best area to stay to see the sites and catch train to Wrigley? Looking for recommendations on areas and hotels to stay at, please! Open to suggestions for restaurants and must-sees for first-time guys. :-)
