Basketball and skake on the beach

I have a 16 year old who lives to play basketball rather than sit on the beach. I also have a 10 year old who loves to skate or segway. Wife loves to sunbathe. Is there 1 spot that we can sit in and everyone get their activities? A bit niche I know but any advice appreciated!!

Cocoa Beach is a great area to cater to multiple interests at once, though it will take a little planning to satisfy everyone. There isn’t a single spot that perfectly accommodates basketball, skating, and sunbathing all in one place, but there are nearby options that work well together.

For your basketball-loving teen, the city has public courts available. The Cocoa Beach Recreation Center offers outdoor basketball courts and is well-maintained, though it’s slightly off the sand.

For your 10-year-old who enjoys skating or riding a Segway, the Cocoa Beach Boardwalk and adjacent sidewalks are perfect. They provide smooth, scenic paths along the ocean where scooters, skates, and Segways are allowed, and there are bike rental shops nearby if needed.

For your wife who wants to sunbathe, the wide beaches in Cocoa Beach provide plenty of space, including areas right near the boardwalk or parking lots, so she can comfortably relax while keeping an eye on the kids.

  • Cocoa Beach Recreation Center: Outdoor basketball courts, short drive from the beach, parking available.
  • Cocoa Beach Boardwalk & nearby sidewalks: Smooth paths for skating, biking, or Segway rides; ocean views.
  • Cocoa Beach public beaches: Plenty of space for sunbathing; near both the boardwalk and local amenities.

One strategy is to set up near the boardwalk area, which is roughly central: your wife can sunbathe on the beach, your 10-year-old can skate along the paved paths, and your teen can take a short walk or drive to a nearby court. This setup keeps everyone close without sacrificing anyone’s preferred activity.

Additional tips:

  • Bring a beach umbrella or pop-up tent for shade while watching the basketball games or skating sessions.
  • Check schedules at the Cocoa Beach Recreation Center, as courts may occasionally host leagues or events.
  • Consider renting bikes or scooters from local shops; this allows the younger child to explore farther along the boardwalk while staying safe.

Overall, while there’s no single “one-stop” spot, using the boardwalk area as your base and combining it with nearby courts gives a practical balance for all three family members’ interests.
