Hotel near Casino
My partner and I are senior citizens traveling to NOLA mid-October for four nights. He likes to gamble and likes plain food.I like shopping and am agreeable to any type food. Can you recommend a hotel with coffee maker, comfy beds, elevator and a restaurant that’s not too heavy on NOLA type food near the casino and a grocery? He can’t walk far but will go several blocks. We’re interested in WW II museum, Sunday Jazz Brunch, Riverboat ride. I have scoured the menus in many hotels such as the Windsor Court and Hotel Monteleone and all are so heavy on NOLA type food. What he needs is a kids menu! Thanks for all your advice!
For a senior-friendly stay near Harrah’s Casino in New Orleans, your priorities of a comfortable hotel with a coffee maker, elevator, comfy beds, and a non-heavy restaurant are very doable, though many French Quarter hotels focus heavily on classic Creole cuisine. Staying within a few blocks of the casino will also put you in easy reach of the WWII Museum, riverboat rides, and shops along Canal Street and the French Quarter.
Here are some hotel options that balance comfort, convenience, and accessible dining options:
- Hilton New Orleans Riverside – Located along the river and just a short walk or tram ride to Harrah’s Casino. Rooms have coffee makers, elevators, and comfy beds. The on-site restaurant offers a range of American fare beyond typical Creole dishes, including simple salads, sandwiches, and kid-friendly options.
- Holiday Inn Express New Orleans Downtown – A more economical option with elevators, coffee makers in rooms, and a light breakfast included. Located about 0.5 miles from the casino. On-site or nearby eateries serve standard American food that’s easy to navigate for someone preferring simple meals.
- The Westin New Orleans Canal Place – Just a few blocks from Harrah’s, featuring elevators, coffee makers, and spacious rooms. The hotel has an on-site American-style restaurant with lighter options, and there are multiple casual dining spots within walking distance along Canal Street and the Riverwalk Mall.
Other nearby conveniences:
- Grocery options: There’s a small Rouses Market and a few Walgreens/CVs along Canal Street within walking distance for snacks, beverages, and essentials.
- Transportation: The area is very walkable for a few blocks, and the streetcar or rideshare options make it easy to reach the WWII Museum and other attractions without overexertion.
- Entertainment: Sunday Jazz Brunch options are plentiful at nearby hotels like the Westin or Hilton Riverside. Riverboat rides leave from the Mississippi Riverwalk, which is within a short walk or a couple of minutes by taxi/ride-share.
Overall, the Hilton Riverside or Westin Canal Place strike the best balance between comfort, accessibility, proximity to the casino, and having straightforward American dining options suitable for your partner’s preferences.
