Chichlid fishing

My grandson is obsessed with watching videos on utube as he loves Chichlids. Are they any fishing trips in canals in the area specifically for this. Struggling to find any online.

Thanks

Cichlid fishing is a fun and exciting way to spend time outdoors, especially for a young angler like your grandson. In the Everglades National Park area, there are several options for fishing, but finding trips specifically targeting cichlids can be a bit more challenging since they aren't the primary species sought after in these waters. However, here are some suggestions to help you with your search:

  • Canal Fishing for Cichlids: Cichlids, particularly species like the Mayan cichlid and the peacock bass (which is technically a cichlid), can be found in many of the canals in the Everglades region. While they may not be the primary target on most guided fishing trips, they are often caught during fishing trips in the area. You might want to ask guides if they offer trips where cichlid fishing is a focus, or at least if they target waters where these species are common.
  • Everglades Fishing Guides: While many guides specialize in larger game fish like bass or tarpon, there are also guides who focus on freshwater canal fishing where cichlids are present. It's worth calling around to fishing charters in the area to ask if they can customize a trip for cichlid fishing or if they know areas where these fish are abundant.
    • Everglades Fishing Charters: Many charter services that operate around the Everglades offer tailored trips for freshwater species, and they may be able to guide you to spots where cichlids are common.
    • Miami Fishing Guides: Since the Everglades are close to Miami, you could also look into guides who operate out of the Miami area, as they may have access to canals near the Everglades where cichlids are abundant.
  • DIY Fishing in the Canals: If you're up for a DIY adventure, you can rent a boat or simply fish from the shore at some of the canals that run through the Everglades. Areas like the Miami Canal, along with canals near the Everglades National Park, are known for their cichlid populations. Just make sure to follow local fishing regulations.

While it may take a little searching to find a guide who specializes in cichlids, there's definitely an opportunity to fish for them in the Everglades. It would also be a great way to get your grandson involved in fishing and enjoy the beautiful Everglades environment!
