Hotel near Everglades national park

I found a hotel in Florida City, Super 8 by Wyndham so

I don't have to drive too far to get to Everglades National Park. From what I read, most people do not recommend this area when asked about where to stay. Should I be looking elsewhere? I just want a clean hotel to sleep. I don't care about amenities.

Staying in Florida City, such as at the Super 8 by Wyndham, is actually one of the most practical options if your main goal is visiting Everglades National Park. The town is located just north of the park's main entrance, making it convenient for early mornings or full-day trips. While Florida City doesn’t have the scenic charm of the Florida Keys or Miami, it serves well as a simple, budget-friendly base for exploring the Everglades.

Many visitors prioritize proximity over luxury or amenities when visiting the park. If your main requirement is a clean place to sleep, Florida City hotels are generally sufficient, though experiences can vary depending on the property.

Some points to consider when choosing your stay:

  • Florida City hotels are mostly budget or mid-range chains; expect basic accommodations without extensive amenities.
  • Proximity to the park is excellent – most trailheads, airboat tours, and visitor centers are within 20–30 minutes.
  • Dining options are limited but adequate for casual meals; many restaurants cater to travelers passing through.

If you are open to slightly different locations, you could consider a few alternatives, though they may require longer drives:

  • Homestead: About 15–20 minutes from Florida City, offers additional hotel options including chains and motels.
  • Everglades City: On the western side of the park, ideal if planning to explore the remote Shark Valley or Ten Thousand Islands, but it is farther from Florida City entrances.
  • Miami area: Only recommended if you plan to combine Everglades visits with Miami sightseeing, but expect at least 45–60 minutes of driving each way.

Overall, if your focus is just a clean, simple place to rest near Everglades National Park, staying in Florida City at Super 8 or a similar budget hotel is a reasonable choice. You’ll minimize driving time, have early access to the park, and can save money on accommodations.
