MCO to 192 toll booths

We are staying at 4 corners. Are the toll booths from MCO to the 192 still cash or have they changed to electronic.

It will be the only time we will go through the tolls so won't hopefully need a toll tag

For your drive from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to the 192 area (near Four Corners), you will indeed encounter toll roads. The toll system in Florida has been transitioning to an all-electronic format, which means the toll booths are no longer accepting cash payments. Instead, the tolls are now collected via electronic methods. Here's what you need to know:

  • Electronic Toll Collection: The toll roads you’ll be using, such as State Road 528 (Beachline Expressway), are fully electronic now. This means there are no cash lanes, and the tolls are collected electronically through a system called SunPass or other compatible electronic tolling devices.
  • No Toll Tag? No Problem: Since you're only going through the tolls once, you don’t necessarily need a permanent SunPass transponder. You have a couple of options:
    • Pay-By-Plate: If you don’t have a SunPass, you can still drive through the tolls, and the system will capture your license plate number. You will receive a bill for the toll charges, which will be mailed to the address associated with your rental car or vehicle registration. Make sure to check with your car rental agency to ensure they have your details and that they’re set up to handle the toll charges properly.
    • SunPass Rental: Some rental car companies offer the option to rent a SunPass transponder for the duration of your trip. This allows you to pay tolls electronically without receiving a bill. It’s worth checking with your rental car company to see if this option is available and what the fees would be.
  • Alternative Routes: If you prefer to avoid the tolls altogether, you can always take alternate routes, but this will add extra time to your journey. The main toll roads are the quickest and most direct route, but you can use GPS navigation to explore non-toll routes if you prefer.

To summarize, the tolls from MCO to the 192 area are now all electronic, and you do not need a SunPass for a one-time trip. You can either use the Pay-By-Plate system or rent a SunPass transponder from your car rental agency for convenience. Enjoy your trip, and safe travels!
