Hello
We (two adults and two teens) are spending one night in Miami, arriving at 2.40pm and departing the next day at 3.08pm
I am wondering if it is worth heading into Miami or just staying at the airport and catching a taxi into the city or beach for an afternoon walk and dinner.
Considering its January should we stay at the beach?
Our flight doesn't leave until 3pm which gives us a few hours to explore in the morning?
At your recommendation, if we stay in town which area should we stay in where the are attractions to see and experience a bit of the Miami vibe? Should we do South Beach? Miami Beach? or Little Havana?
Look forward to your pearls of wisdom
Thanks in advance
Viv
Hello Viv,
It sounds like you have a fantastic opportunity to experience a little bit of Miami during your brief stay! With just one night and a few hours the next day, you have several options depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for. Let’s break it down:
Should you head into Miami or stay near the airport?
Given that you’re arriving in the afternoon and have the next morning to explore, it’s definitely worth heading into Miami, especially since the airport is fairly close to some of the city’s highlights. Miami is a vibrant city with plenty to see, even if you just have a few hours. Staying near the airport is more convenient but much less interesting. You could easily take a taxi or use ride-sharing services like Uber to get to a nearby area. If you stay near the airport, you'll miss the chance to experience Miami’s famous atmosphere, and you'll likely spend more time traveling than exploring.
Should you stay at the beach in January?
January is one of the best times to visit Miami, especially if you’re looking to escape colder weather. Miami Beach will be comfortable, with daytime temperatures typically ranging between 70-75°F (21-24°C). If your family enjoys walking along the beach, soaking up the atmosphere, or just enjoying a meal with a view of the ocean, South Beach is a great option. The area is lively but not overwhelmingly crowded in January, making it a perfect choice for a short stay.
Where should you stay in Miami to get a good vibe?
What to do during your short stay?
Final Recommendation:
If you want a quintessential Miami experience, I’d suggest staying in South Beach. It’s the perfect balance of beautiful beaches, great food, and Miami’s famous nightlife. You can relax on the beach, explore the local art scene, and still enjoy a good meal with a beautiful ocean view. If you want to add a touch of culture and something off the beaten path, Little Havana would be a great way to experience a different side of Miami, but it’s not on the beach.
In summary, go for South Beach if you want the classic Miami vibe with easy beach access, but consider Little Havana if you're craving more culture and a change of pace. Either way, you’ll have a wonderful time! Enjoy your stay in Miami!
