Private Boat - Shelling & Fishing

Hi - looking for a private boat (13 of us - 6 adults and 7 kids ages 8-12). We are staying at the JW so something close by. Looking to do shelling on the islands and possibly some fishing. Open to ideas - please let me know of any recs!

For a group of 13 staying at the JW Marco Island and looking to enjoy shelling and fishing, a private charter boat is an ideal option. Marco Island and the surrounding Ten Thousand Islands offer excellent shallow-water shelling spots, calm waters for kids, and good fishing opportunities for both beginners and experienced anglers.

Here are some recommended private boat charter options and considerations:

  • Marco Island Boat Rentals & Charters: Offers private boats with or without a captain, ideal for families. They can take you to nearby islands for shelling and fishing excursions.
  • Island Marine Rentals: Provides larger boats suitable for groups up to 15. Their captains are knowledgeable about local shelling spots and fishing hotspots.
  • Gulf Coast Fishing & Shelling Tours: Specializes in custom private trips combining shelling at pristine islands and light fishing for species such as snook, redfish, and trout.
  • Jellyfish Boat Rentals: Offers private day trips for families, including snorkeling, shelling, and guided fishing with all necessary equipment provided.

Additional tips for your trip:

  • Book early, especially during peak season or holidays, as boats for larger groups fill up quickly.
  • Discuss with the charter company if they provide all necessary fishing gear and life jackets for children.
  • Consider a half-day or full-day trip depending on the energy levels of the kids and the mix of activities you want.
  • Bring sunscreen, hats, snacks, and water. Some charters may allow coolers or even provide light refreshments.
  • Ask the captain about tide times for the best shelling experience, as low tide is generally ideal for finding shells.

With the right charter, your group can enjoy a safe, private, and fun day exploring the islands, collecting shells, and fishing in the calm waters around Marco Island.
