2 day itinerary if staying in Kennebunkport

2 nights 3 day getaway based in Kennebunkport but want to explore other nearby sights and towns. We have a in years Past done Ogunquit and Portland ( and Var Harbor). What other towns should we explore this trip? I do also enjoy rustic settings that feel like we’re at the edge of the world ? Like islands or points off the coast.

Kennebunkport is a charming base for a 2-night, 3-day getaway, offering coastal scenery, quaint streets, and easy access to nearby towns and islands. Since you’ve already visited Ogunquit, Portland, and Bar Harbor, you can focus on smaller coastal towns and unique points that give you a rustic, “edge of the world” feel.

Here’s a suggested itinerary that balances scenic drives, charming towns, and coastal experiences:

Day 1: Explore Kennebunkport

  • Start your morning with a stroll along Dock Square, exploring boutique shops and art galleries.
  • Visit the famous Walker’s Point area to see historic summer homes and enjoy waterfront views.
  • Take a short drive or walk to Goose Rocks Beach for a serene coastal experience.
  • Enjoy lunch at a local seafood spot like The Clam Shack or Barefoot Contessa-style cafés.
  • In the afternoon, take a scenic drive along the coast to see lighthouses like Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse or Boothbay Head Light.
  • Dinner back in Kennebunkport at a cozy restaurant such as Earth at Hidden Pond for a refined, rustic experience.

Day 2: Nearby Coastal Towns & Rustic Points

  • Drive south toward York and Cape Neddick. Visit Nubble Lighthouse, a quintessential Maine coastal icon.
  • Explore the Cape Porpoise
  • Take a short ferry or boat tour to one of the nearby islands like Monhegan Island (if time allows) for hiking and dramatic ocean views. Otherwise, Ram Island or Goat Island are quieter points for coastal scenery.
  • Lunch at a local lobster shack or small café in Cape Porpoise or York Harbor.
  • Return toward Kennebunkport via Arundel or Biddeford Pool for a scenic drive along marshlands and coastline.
  • Evening dinner at Bandaloop or another local seafood-focused restaurant in Kennebunkport.

Day 3: Short Coastal Excursion Before Departure

  • Morning walk along Goose Rocks Beach or Parsons Beach for sunrise or tide pools exploration.
  • If time allows, a short drive to Boothbay Harbor for a final scenic coastal stop, especially the harbor area for quaint shops and small galleries.
  • Enjoy a light brunch in Kennebunkport before heading home.

Additional tips:

  • Bring a camera for lighthouse and coastal photography—the light and scenery are stunning in the mornings and late afternoons.
  • If you enjoy rustic points, check local maps for small peninsulas and uninhabited coastal spots like Parsons Beach end points or Goose Rocks Beach walking trails.
  • Reservations for lunch and dinner are recommended, especially in the summer or holiday weekends.

This itinerary keeps you anchored in Kennebunkport while allowing exploration of nearby towns, quiet harbors, and coastal vistas for a mix of charm, rustic scenery, and seaside adventure.
