Golfing around Ormond

We will be there January 25 through the 30th and want to play a round of golf somewhere. This is only our second summer of playing. Where would you recommend around the Ormond Daytona area and should we bring our own golf clubs at $70 to check them or just rent? Not sure what the going prices for that but I can call once I get some ideas on where we should golf. Thank you in advance!

Ormond Beach and the surrounding Daytona area offer several excellent options for beginner to intermediate golfers, and January is a great time to enjoy mild weather without the summer heat. Since this is only your second year of playing, it’s best to look for courses that are not overly challenging but still enjoyable.

Recommended courses around Ormond Beach and Daytona include:

  • Ormond Beach Country Club: A well-maintained 18-hole course that is friendly to newer golfers. Greens are fair but not too difficult, and the course has a relaxed pace.
  • Daytona Beach Golf Club: Offers two courses, the South and North courses. Both are suitable for less experienced players and have affordable rates. The South course is slightly easier for beginners.
  • LPGA International (Daytona Beach): Known for its professional-level layouts, but the courses (Hills and Jones) can be enjoyed at your own pace if you play off the appropriate tees. The Hills course is a bit more forgiving for newer players.
  • Briar Creek Country Club: A private club that sometimes offers public play or guest passes. It has a gentle layout and is ideal for practicing and improving skills.

Regarding golf clubs, bringing your own can cost around $70 in airline fees, which might be more than renting at the course. Many local courses offer rental sets for around $25–$40 for 18 holes, which is convenient if you don’t want to travel with clubs. For a short trip and your skill level, renting is likely the easier and more cost-effective choice.

Other tips:

  • Call ahead for tee times, as January can still see moderate crowds, especially on weekends.
  • Check if the courses offer beginner or short course options to make the round more enjoyable.
  • Consider bringing your own golf shoes and gloves if you have them; rental clubs usually include basic equipment, but personal comfort makes a big difference.

Overall, the Ormond Beach/Daytona area has plenty of options for a relaxed and enjoyable golf experience, whether you rent clubs locally or bring your own.
