Universal early entry

Hi,

We’re looking to stay at one of the Universal resorts to use the early entry benefit. If we’re arriving to the resort early before park opens can we check in and still be able to get in the park before opening? Do they give you a room card even if our room isnt ready or how does it work?

Staying at a Universal Orlando Resort hotel comes with the Early Park Admission (EPA) benefit, which allows you to enter certain areas of the theme parks before the general public. This is a great perk for hitting popular rides with shorter wait times. However, understanding how it works in relation to hotel check-in is important, especially if you arrive early in the day.

Here’s how it typically works:

  • Early check-in at the hotel: Most Universal hotels allow guests to check in at the standard check-in time (usually around 3:00pm), but you can still take advantage of early park admission even if your room isn’t ready. This means you can drop off luggage at the front desk and proceed to the parks.
  • Room key or wristband: If your room isn’t ready, the hotel will provide you with a temporary room key or a resort-specific wristband that acts as proof of hotel guest status. This is all you need to access early entry and other hotel benefits.
  • Luggage services: Hotels offer luggage storage, so you can check your bags and go straight to the parks without waiting for your room to be prepared.

Additional tips to make the most of Early Park Admission:

  • Arrive at the resort early and head straight to the park entrance. Universal staff typically allow early entry about 30–60 minutes before the official park opening for regular guests.
  • Bring your temporary room key or wristband, along with a valid photo ID, to gain access to the early entry period.
  • Plan which rides or attractions you want to visit first, as early entry gives you a competitive advantage on popular rides.
  • Even if your room isn’t ready, some hotel amenities (like pools or dining areas) may be accessible once you’re checked in and have your guest credentials.

In summary, arriving early at a Universal hotel doesn’t prevent you from using Early Park Admission. The hotel will provide you with the necessary credentials for park entry, and your luggage can be stored until your room is ready. This allows you to start enjoying the parks immediately, making the most of your Universal vacation.
