Post Tracking Number in Chinese Visa Application

Hi,

We are filling out the Chinese visa application form online, and when selecting the option for passport return by post, there is a mandatory field asking for a “Post Tracking Number.”

In India, Blue Dart is listed as the official courier partner, but they do not seem to provide any prepaid self-addressed envelopes. Could you please clarify how we can obtain this tracking number, or what exactly should be filled in this field?

When applying for a Chinese visa online and selecting the option for passport return by post, the field for “Post Tracking Number” is mandatory because the consulate or visa application center uses an official courier service to return your passport securely.

In India, Blue Dart is the official courier partner for visa returns. You do not need to provide your own prepaid envelope; instead, the visa application center provides a prepaid Blue Dart envelope or arranges for the courier service themselves.

Here’s how to handle the “Post Tracking Number” field:

  • If you have not received a Blue Dart tracking number before submission, leave the field blank or write “To be provided by VAC/Consulate,” depending on the instructions on the application form. Usually, this field is updated automatically after the visa center processes your application.
  • Some centers may require you to book the Blue Dart service online yourself. In this case, you would first generate a shipment label through the Blue Dart portal and obtain a tracking number, which can then be entered in the form.
  • If you are unsure, contact the Chinese Visa Application Center (VAC) in your city. They will clarify whether they provide the envelope and tracking number or if you need to arrange it yourself.

Summary: For most applicants in India, you do not need to fill in a tracking number at the time of form submission. The visa center will handle the courier, and you will receive a tracking number once your passport is dispatched. If the form insists on a number, note that it will be assigned by Blue Dart and can be updated later.

Tip: Always check the VAC website for your city, as procedures may slightly differ between consulates (e.g., New Delhi vs Mumbai).
