It sounds like you had a wonderfully food-focused trip with a mix of New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette experiences. Starting off with Neyow’s Café immediately set the tone with classic Louisiana flavors, like the blackened rib steak and sautéed crab claws, which you enjoyed thoroughly.

Highlights of your trip included:

  • Oceana Grille: You enjoyed catfish po'boys, redfish, and revisited multiple times, indicating a reliable and high-quality dining experience.
  • Baton Rouge: Touring the Capitol building was memorable, offering panoramic views of the area including nearby oil refineries.
  • Lafayette: First-time visit with a fantastic, affordable fried platter including shrimp, catfish, gator tail, crab cake, and gumbo. Portions were generous and flavorful, highlighting the city’s Cajun and Creole culinary offerings.
  • Crescent City Blues BBQ: Great music accompanied meals, enhancing the overall New Orleans vibe.
  • Neyow’s Café revisits: Fried chicken and charbroiled oysters provided standout dishes, particularly the oysters as a first-time experience, full of garlicky flavor.

Additional noteworthy moments:

  • Airbnb host hospitality, including inviting you for a homemade BBQ shrimp meal with Oreo ice cream for dessert.
  • Exploration of local desserts like strawberry cheesecake and trips to St. Charles Market for treats.
  • Some minor disappointments such as the Frenchmen Hotel being closed for Kermit Ruffins and limited streetcar service on Canal Street, but these didn’t overshadow the overall positive experiences.

Overall, your trip was a mix of excellent food, music, and southern hospitality. Standout experiences were repeat visits to favorite spots, trying new dishes like charbroiled oysters, and enjoying meals at both casual and more formal dining spots. The combination of New Orleans culture, Baton Rouge sightseeing, and Lafayette culinary adventures made for a rich and memorable visit. You clearly found your new favorite dining spot in Neyow’s Café and left with plans to return to the French Quarter.
