hotel

does anyone know if the Frenchman Hotel on Frenchman street is closed for good? we went ther last Wednesday to see Kermit Ruffins do his gig(saw him there 6 moths ago)..pouring rain....and all closed up...we ended up at the 21st amendment for Dr. Sick...just saw Trumpet Mafia listed to be there on a Tuesday(have seen this great event)...so is it open???

Good question — there is a lot of confusion lately around (on Frenchmen Street), and it’s hard to point to a definitive “yes, it’s open” or “no, it’s closed for good.” Here’s a breakdown of what I found — and why you might have walked up Wednesday to find it dark.

What I found out recently

  • The Frenchmen Hotel was renovated and reopened in early 2022 under new ownership.
  • More recently, in January 2025, the hotel was reportedly added to the management portfolio of Kasa (a hospitality company), listed as “The Frenchmen by Kasa.”
  • On paper, reviews from 2024-2025 still show clean rooms, decent staff, and the hotel described as a “hidden gem.”

What suggests trouble / possible closure (or at least very limited operation)

  • Some recent posts on traveler message boards (as of October 2025) claim that the hotel “shut the doors, no notice,” and that staff were not being paid.
  • Those same posts suggest that musical gigs and hotel bookings have been cancelled — which could mean that the property is not functioning normally.
  • Because the hotel is small and boutique-style (27 rooms), even a temporary closure or reduced operations could feel like a full shutdown to a guest arriving on a rainy night.

Why this kind of uncertainty happens on Frenchmen Street

The music and hospitality scene here is always changing. Venues and hotels often switch hands, change management, or shift business models — especially after the difficulties of recent years (pandemic, financial pressures). Small boutique hotels may close temporarily, or suffer staffing & licensing challenges, which may not always be widely publicized. So what’s “officially open” one month might feel closed the next. If you visited during a down-time (rainy night, poor staffing, no events), the hotel could be technically open but effectively not hosting music or bar service — which matches your experience.

My take (based on evidence + recent reports)

It’s possible that the Frenchmen Hotel has either shut down again — at least temporarily — or significantly scaled back (no live music, no bar, limited or no guest service). The 2025 reports from former employees and guests claiming abrupt closures are troubling. So, yes — there’s a good chance that the hotel as you knew it (with live music and active nightlife) is not functioning right now.

What I recommend if you plan to go

  • Call ahead. Try calling the hotel phone number and ask if they are accepting guests and whether the music/bar is operating. The most recent guest complaints mention phone lines disconnected.
  • Have a backup plan. If Frenchmen Hotel is closed, there are many other hotels and live-music/light-hotel options on Frenchmen Street or nearby in the Marigny / French Quarter — e.g. guesthouses, other boutique hotels, or larger hotels just a short ride away.
  • If it’s the music you want (vs the room), you might instead head for some of the live-music clubs on Frenchmen Street — many remain open even if the hotel doesn’t. That way you get the vibe without betting on the hotel’s reliability.
