The Haining tide is indeed a wonder of the world, attracting a large number of tourists every year. However, Haining is famous for more than just this.
Haining is located in northern Zhejiang. As a typical Jiangnan city, it is known as the "land of fish and rice and the home of silk". It is also a famous historical and cultural city and the hometown of celebrities such as Wang Guowei, Xu Zhimo, Jin Yong, and Jiang Baili.
Haining boasts a prime location, with Shanghai, Hangzhou, Suzhou, Shaoxing, and Wuzhen all within an hour's drive, making weekend getaways a breeze. Haining also boasts attractions such as the ancient city of Yanguan, Luzhong Ancient Town, and the Temple of the Sea God.
Haining is 120 kilometers from Shanghai, 70 kilometers from Hangzhou, 110 kilometers from Suzhou, and 40 kilometers from Wuzhen. The Hangzhou-Pukou Expressway and the Jiaxing-Shaoxing Cross-sea Bridge intersect. High-speed rail passengers can get off at Jiaxing South Station. Driving is also accessible via the Hangzhou-Pukou Expressway, the Zhajiasu Expressway, and the Shanghai-Hangzhou Expressway.
Yanguan is the only Chaozhou town in China. It is located in the center of China's East China Golden Triangle - Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. Because it is close to the Qiantang River and has convenient water conservancy, it has been a prosperous place since ancient times.
History: 2,100 years ago during China's Western Han Dynasty, the lord of this area, King Liu Bi of Wu, exploited the Qiantang River's access to the sea to profit from producing salt. To effectively manage the salt business, he appointed a special official, the Salt Official. Later, the official's name became the place name, giving the area the name "Yanguan." With its advantageous geographical location and prosperous economy, Yanguan was also historically known as "Haining," meaning "peace on the sea."
Every year, a steady stream of tourists descend on Yanguan, all seeking to witness the Qiantang Tide. The Yanguan Tide-Watching Scenic Area is broadly divided into two parts: Yanguan Ancient Town and Tide-Watching Park. Most visitors to Yanguan come for the Qiantang Tide. If you're just strolling around the ancient town and not entering the residences, you don't need to purchase a ticket. To watch the tide at Tide-Watching Park, you can purchase a separate park ticket or a combined ticket for the scenic area.

Admission to the scenic area is free, and a combined ticket to paid attractions costs 100 yuan (including the Tide Viewing Park, Chen Ge Lao's Residence, the Temple of Poseidon, Wang Guowei's Former Residence, Huaju Yashe, Jiangnan Folk Customs Museum, and Jin Yong Academy).
Children under 1.2 meters and seniors over 70 years old are free of charge;
Children between 1.2 and 1.5 meters, students, and senior citizens aged 60 to 69 years old can enjoy half price with a voucher.
Tickets for each attraction are: 25 yuan for Guanchao Scenic Area Park, 12 yuan for Poseidon Temple, 25 yuan for Chen Ge Lao's Residence, 10 yuan for Huaju Yashe, 10 yuan for Jiangnan Folk Customs Museum, 10 yuan for Wang Guowei's Former Residence, and 25 yuan for Jin Yong Academy. Xu Zhimo's former residence is located in the middle section of Ganhe Street in Xishi Town, Haining City. It is a small Western-style building with a blend of Chinese and Western styles, built by his father, Xu Shenru, for the wedding of Xu Zhimo and Lu Xiaoman. Xu Zhimo and Lu Xiaoman lived here after their marriage. The main building consists of three rooms on two floors, with two east and west wings in the front. The main hall on the ground floor serves as a living room decorated in a Chinese style. The east and west wings display exhibits on Xu Zhimo's family history, life, thoughts, and literary activities, showcasing the poet's brief but brilliant life. On the east side of the upper floor are the couple's new home and the "Meixuan" study; on the west side are the bedrooms of Xu Zhimo's parents and the living quarters of his ex-wife, Zhang Youyi, all of which have been restored. A rooftop terrace on the rear building offers views of the Xishi Mountains to the east and west.

Located in Xinwei Village, Yuanhua Town, Haining City, Jin Yong's Former Residence is the birthplace and former residence of renowned martial arts novelist Jin Yong. During the Qing Dynasty, the Cha family produced "ten Jinshi scholars and three brothers who were Hanlin scholars." Emperor Kangxi praised the family as "a prominent family since the Tang and Song dynasties, one of the most prominent in Jiangnan."
Yuanhua, with its picturesque scenery, is known as the "Garden Town." Nestled against the lush Maozhu Mountain, the town's banks stretch across the Huaxi River, shimmering against the backdrop of the morning glow. The Huaxi Bridge, traversing the waters, quietly embellishes the flowing waters. The ancient Huaxi Street, flanked by clusters of flowers and shady trees, creates a rich, Jiangnan waterside scene. As the saying goes, "Local land nurtures local people." It was this Jiangnan town that nurtured the legendary Jin Yong.
From afar, Jin Yong's former residence reveals a white enclosure and a slate-gray brick structure. The first thing that catches your eye is the long corridor featuring the "Seventy-Two Knights" featured in Jin Yong's works. Turning right, you'll arrive at the Heshan Room, Jin Yong's study. Further west, you'll find the "Introduction to Jin Yong" exhibition hall. Jin Yong was an outstanding student from childhood. Due to war, he fled with his school, traveling thousands of miles to Hong Kong. There, he founded Ming Pao, a newspaper magnate, and established himself as a prominent figure in the local newspaper industry. Over the next 17 years, he published fifteen novels, including "The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils," totaling 11 million words. Jin Yong's novels are enduring global bestsellers, reaching a readership exceeding hundreds of millions, a rare achievement, earning him the reputation of a literary giant.

Xia Culture Parent-Child Farm
A famous local dish of Haining, braised meat in a pot is essentially crispy meat. It has a long history, dating back to ancient times, when humans cooked animal meat in ceramic pots. With the development of society, humans evolved from ceramic pots to iron pots and electrical appliances, and the tradition gradually disappeared. However, Haining has preserved the original method of cooking meat in ceramic pots from thousands of years ago, and has also infused it with traditional cultural connotations along the way. "Its color is like amber, melts in the mouth, and is rich and smooth, making it unique and extraordinary." It is a fine dish served at wedding banquets in the Yanguan area of Haining.
Legend has it that Emperor Qianlong ate this dish in a farmer's house when he went to the south of the Yangtze River and named it "Yanqiu". After years of improvement, the product is now mainly made of fresh fish meat, leek sprouts, ham, pork skin, etc., steamed in a ball shape, which tastes delicious and tender and will not cause sore throat.
Also known as "Li Wei Eye Cake," this cake is steamed from glutinous rice flour and comes in either meat or red bean paste fillings. Legend has it that it originated when Li Wei, a close confidant of Emperor Yongzheng, was supervising the construction of the seawall in Yanguan. Anxious, Li Wei investigated and discovered that building the seawall was too strenuous. The soldiers, fed only regular military rations at noon, were too exhausted to work in the afternoon. Later, Li Wei dined at a teahouse in Yanguan, where the owner recommended the teahouse's special eye cake. Two pieces filled Li Wei to a satiating stomach. So, Li Wei renamed the "eye cake" "Yanjing Cake" and delivered it daily to everyone at the seawall. Everyone understood Li Wei's good intentions, and the soldiers worked diligently from then on, repairing every section of the seawall. Later generations, in Li Wei's memory, called the eye cake "Li Wei Eye Cake."
Wanchang Tea Snack Shop, founded in 1886, boasts a history of over a century. Renowned for its exquisite seasonal snacks, the shop has been renowned in northern Zhejiang for its distinctive pastries and snacks. Its large sesame cakes, pine nut cakes, sesame candies, and salt and pepper peach slices remain popular sellers.
Feng Lao Da Pickled Cabbage was founded in 1970 and has a history of 33 years. Feng Lao Da Pickled Cabbage is famous at home and abroad for its tender and crispy meat, delicious and spicy taste. No matter it is on the dinner table of ordinary people or on the banquet of star-rated hotels, there will be a place for Feng Lao Da Pickled Cabbage. It can be regarded as a famous local specialty of Haining.
Haining's Three Knives originated in 1835, the fourth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty, when Zhou Shunxing Iron Shop, located in Yanguan, founded the shop. Its products were renowned for their superior quality, earning them prestigious awards in countries such as Korea, Vietnam, Singapore, and West Germany. Zhou Shunxing Iron Shop is a renowned century-old shop.
According to statistics, one out of every four leather garments produced in China originates in Haining. Haining currently boasts over 4,700 leather garment companies, spread across every township in the city, employing 44,400 people. One out of every five workers in the city works in leather garment companies. The leather industry's output value accounts for 28.7% of Haining's entire industrial economy and 43.83% of its export value. Haining is truly a "Leather Capital."
In 2001, the total output value of Haining's leather and leather goods industry reached 12 billion yuan, ranking first in the country in terms of economic output; the annual output of leather clothing reached 25 million pieces (sets), ranking first in the country; the annual export volume of leather clothing and leather products reached 3.4 billion yuan, ranking first in the country.
