It takes some time to walk around the main check-in spots of Xiamen University, but the beauty of Xiamen University will make you forget the time.

Admission | Xiamen University's main gate

Xiamen University's main campus is located at 422 Siming South Road, Siming District, Xiamen, on the southern tip of Xiamen Island, covering approximately 2,500 acres. Flanked by Nanputuo Temple on one side and the seaside and Hulishan Fort on the other, the university is hailed as one of China's most beautiful university campuses. The campus boasts scenic attractions such as Furong Lake and the Lover's Valley Reservoir, leading to the saying, "Talk about romance at Xiamen University." Many of Xiamen University's older buildings were built by Tan Kah Kee's son-in-law. Their distinctive exposed concrete walls and glazed roofs have earned them the nickname "wearing a suit and a conical hat" (a metaphor for the fusion of Chinese and Western architectural styles). The Jiannan Auditorium and Shangxian Field are particularly magnificent.

Unique architectural style | Wearing a suit and a hat

Xiamen University's history is inseparable from the great figure of Tan Kah Kee. From the planning, founding, and enrollment of a private university in 1919, to the Nanjing Nationalist Government's approval on July 1, 1937, to the university's continued growth and development, all were inseparable from the financial support and efforts of overseas Chinese Tan Kah Kee. Walking through the university, you can feel the Kah Kee spirit everywhere.

Wearing a suit and a bamboo hat is a key expression of the Jiageng spirit. Many of Xiamen University's buildings feature roofs in a traditional Chinese style, known as the "Three Rivers Ridge" roof, a characteristic of southern Fujian. This "Three Rivers Ridge" roof structure consists of a raised central section of the main ridge, with eaves added on either side. The eaves resemble birds poised for flight. The roof is adorned with southern Fujian colored paintings, while the side pediments and eaves are decorated with clay sculptures and wood carvings.

"It is of paramount importance to prioritize locally produced materials wherever possible." The roofs of Xiamen University buildings are primarily constructed of timber, covered with tiles. These "Jiageng tiles" were Tan Kah Kee's exclusive secret recipe. Below, the Western-style building, with its wide windows and doors, offers a bright and airy atmosphere, a typical Western architectural style. This embodies Tan Kah Kee's blend of Eastern and Western elements.

Xiamen University’s History Museum is built in the unique Tan Kah Kee architectural style.

The Lu Xun Memorial Hall, where Lu Xun traveled from Shanghai to Xiamen in September 1926, embarking on the Xinning ship to teach at Xiamen University. He left Xiamen for Guangzhou just over four months later. For Lu Xun himself, his time at Xiamen University was the most tender period of his life, a crucial moment in his life when he made the crucial decision between teaching and literary creation. The memorial hall contains a treasured collection of Lu Xun's many tales of love and hate between him and Xiamen University.

In front of Xiamen University's school history museum is a bronze statue of Tan Kah Kee. In addition to its combination of Chinese and Western styles, most of Xiamen University's buildings are "one main and four subsidiary buildings", that is, there is a main building in the middle, and two subsidiary buildings on each side, forming the architectural characteristics of "one main and four subsidiary buildings".

Follow Me | Furong Tunnel, Lover's Valley, Furong Lake, Shangxian Field

"You asked me curiously, why don't you get married if you love her, and I whispered to you, wait until you don't love her anymore before getting married." Xiamen University encourages students to fall in love, so when you walk on the streets of Xiamen University, you will feel that the air is sweet.

Furong Tunnel is a place for Xiamen University students to create art and exchange ideas. The entire tunnel is 1.1 kilometers long, and the walls are covered with various graffiti. These graffiti are all expressions of Xiamen University students' thoughts, whether on life, on life, or on this society.

A friendly reminder: the tunnel walls are not allowed to be graffitied, so please do not graffiti on the walls when visiting the Furong Tunnel, as this will destroy the students' hard work.

I'm leaving, please come and see me off. Forget it, don't come, I'm afraid I'll burst into tears when I see you; Forget it, please come and see me off, I'm afraid I don't know when we'll meet again from now on. From now on, we'll never meet again, and I won't care about our old friends' strengths or weaknesses. "I love you, goodbye."

There is a coffee shop in the tunnel where you can write postcards.

Classic starry sky graffiti, here is the correct way to take pictures!

Lover's Valley was originally a valley created by the terrain of Wulao Peak to the north of Xiamen University. There was an artificial reservoir in the valley, called Xiamen University Reservoir, which was later renamed Lover's Valley.

Today, this place is not only a sacred place for love between the boys and girls of the school, but has also become a refined destination for people of all stripes. Those seeking to marry, those seeking to grow old together, all come here, and wedding photography is a constant stream... Young people can think of it as the Qin Lake in "Lush Mountain Love," while the elderly can think of it as "Golden Pond" by Audrey Hepburn. Crossing the river with you, we reach the shore, each returning to the Lover's Valley. It has borne the joys and sorrows of countless lovers...

Across from Furong Lake lies Song'en Building, the third and main building in the Jiageng Building complex. Donated by renowned Thai alumni Ding Zhengzeng and Cai Yueshi, the building was named "Song'en" to honor the university's support and nurturing. Standing tall, it is a landmark landmark of the university's cross-century history and a vital venue for administrative services, teaching, and research.

Furong Lake is most famous for its black swans, which are very cute. It is also the best place to take pictures of Song'en Tower.

Black swans cannot be fed privately ~ they are raised by special personnel.

From the upper string field, you can have a good view of Xiamen’s landmark buildings - the Twin Towers.

The Waxing Field is the main stadium of Xiamen University. It is a large semi-elliptical stadium. It takes advantage of the height difference between the buildings and the stadium and builds a large stand that can accommodate 20,000 people according to local conditions. Because the stadium and the stands are both arc-shaped, just like the waxing moon, it is called the "Waixing Field".

Shangxianchang, once a naval training ground, is shrouded in history, yet even the ordinary steps on the playground seem to hold endless stories. The words "Shangxianchang" seem to transport you back in time, to the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, when thousands of naval forces undertook their final mobilization before heading into battle.

"Will you remember the diary you wrote yesterday tomorrow? Will you still miss the you who used to cry the most tomorrow?" Lao Lang's song "My Deskmate" was written and composed by Gao Xiaosong. It was during his time at the Shangxian Arena that Gao Xiaosong met a girl he instantly fell in love with, and this girl gave him the inspiration for this song.

Strolling around Xiamen University

In addition to these iconic buildings, Xiamen University also has many hip coffee shops, magnificent libraries, majestic concert halls... (I really regret why I couldn't get in. Maybe my IQ doesn't allow me to get in!) Then let's take a walk in Xiamen University, although the breeze is three miles away, and you are no longer there at every step.

This is the Xiamen University student dormitory. The student apartments are all in the very distinctive Jiageng architectural style (really enviable...)

Xiamen University Science and Art Center consists of four floors, including three floors above ground and one underground floor with a construction area of nearly 19,000 square meters. The total investment is about RMB 80 million. The center has a large lecture hall with 915 seats, which also serves as a digital cinema, a 508-seat concert hall, and a large exhibition hall of about 2,000 square meters. It was not open to the public on the day I went there, so I was a little disappointed.

While you are experiencing heavy snow in the cold nights in the north, I am in the southern city where it is spring all year round. Xiamen has spring-like weather all year round. Even at the seaside in winter, you will not feel very cold. Baicheng Beach is just opposite the gate of Xiamen University. After visiting Xiamen University, you can also take a walk on the beach next to it, which is very pleasant.

Conclusion

Xiamen is a place you want to stay when you come, and Xiamen University is a place you want to fall in love when you come. I think of Eason Chan's song: "I came to your city and walked the way you came." I have only been to Hangzhou once, and my memory is very vague. I only remember visiting West Lake and Songcheng, and I don't have much impression of other places. I believe that one day I will go there again and walk the way you came. I heard a folk song called "Twelve": "You are the direction that falls into the afterglow of the evening. You are the short-lived ideal that I cannot embrace. You are the journey, you are the hometown." - Gramophone "Twelve"
