Gulangyu Island: 7 Hours in the Secret Land | Become an Island Native

Day 1 Cruise Center Xiamen-Gulangyu Terminal → Gulangyu Island

All day

Due to the time constraints of the Gulangyu ferry tickets, the order of the tours will be adjusted appropriately without reducing the itinerary.

Departure time: around 8:30-9:50

We have prepared round-trip tickets for everyone. You can take the ferry from the Xiamen-Gulangyu Pier of the cruise center to Gulangyu Island. The tour leader will be waiting for you at the Gulangyu Pier.

Quiet, deserted paths and hidden beaches

Although crowds have long since taken over Gulang Island, some areas on the island still retain their tranquility. This is a deserted path that ends at the ocean, offering a quieter alternative to Bishan Road. Remember to watch your step, as there are hidden gems. For photos, of course, go where there are fewer people. Here, you can let loose and take beautiful photos.

Bishan Road Building Complex, Moonlight Rock

There is also a privately owned Moonlight Rock on Gulangyu Island. Compared to the crowded Sunlight Rock, the scenery here is beautiful, there are fewer people and no need to queue.

Stroll freely and enjoy delicious food on Longtou Road

The food street on Gulangyu Island reserves one hour of free time for everyone to enjoy themselves. The tour leader recommends that you will never miss any of the food.

Shuzhuang Garden, Piano Museum

This is one of the most worthwhile paid attractions on Gulangyu Island. Unlike other gardens, which often hide lakes, this one hides the ocean. There's also a piano museum, and if the timing is right, we might even encounter a pianist from the sea playing "Waves of Gulangyu."

International Buildings

On Gulangyu Island, the old villas are the soul. The red brick houses of southern Fujian and European Roman, Baroque, and Rococo styles blend harmoniously here.

Visit the mysterious private old villa and private rooftop

This is one of the most well-preserved and authentic villas in Xiamen. It is now privately owned and not open to the public. Come and step into this mysterious villa. If the weather is good, you can even watch the sunset from the large rooftop.

End time: around 16:30-17:00

The tour ends at Gulangyu Island. Return flights depart from Sanqiutian Pier 24 hours a day, allowing you to choose your preferred time to board the ferry back to Xiamen Island. You can also choose to stay overnight on Gulangyu Island. The return ferry ticket (out of Gulangyu Island) is valid for 20 days.

Hiking: About 8,000 steps

Note: Due to the peak seasons such as summer vacation and holidays, Gulangyu ferry tickets are in short supply, and the number of ordinary passenger ship tickets included in the itinerary is relatively small. If the ordinary passenger ship tickets are sold out, you will need to pay the difference of 45 yuan per person to upgrade to a luxury passenger ship. You can travel after the ticket is successfully issued.

Gulangyu Island

This place is a place of tranquility and artistry. In the 1980s and 1990s, before it became a tourist destination, Gulangyu Island boasted the highest per capita piano and violin ownership in China, earning it the nickname "Piano Island." Known as the "Garden on the Sea," the island boasts no motor vehicles or factories, allowing everyone to return to a pristine state. Its architectural style is also a hallmark of Gulangyu Island. Since 1902, 13 countries, including Britain, the United States, Germany, and Japan, have constructed buildings on the island, earning it the nickname "Architecture Museum of All Nations."

Shuzhuang Garden

Shuzhuang Park on Gulangyu Island was built in 1913. It is located in the southern part of Gulangyu Island, facing the sea and backed by Sunlight Rock. The various scenes in the park are scattered and orderly. The garden is on the sea and the sea is in the garden. It has both the exquisite elegance of Jiangnan courtyards and the majestic grandeur of flying seagulls.
