Winter, clad in its plain attire, slowly arrives. The colorful forest, stripped of its former vibrant colors, now uses simple lines to create a romantic, dreamy snowy landscape, pure, transparent, and light and natural. Snowflakes fall across the Fairy Valley, their tenderness adorning the winter's bleakness with a touch of tenderness. Because of the snowflakes' tenderness, the colorful forest is imbued with a brilliant white, each shimmering with winter's beauty. Because of the falling snow's tenderness, the colorful forest feels renewed, and the trail of footprints in the snow infuses the winter with passion.
The Fairy Valley Colorful Forest International Tourist Resort is located in Lama Polo Village, Datan Town, Fengning County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Covering a total area of 23,000 mu (approximately 1,568 to 1,815 meters above sea level), it boasts a 90-day frost-free period, an average temperature of 2.5 degrees Celsius, and a summer average of 16 degrees Celsius, making it a truly summer-free destination.
In winter, snowfall is frequent here, lasting more than six months from October to April, with snow accumulation exceeding one meter in depth. Due to the high altitude and low temperature, the snowflakes here are shaped like six-sided flowers, resulting in high-quality and high-viscosity snow.
During the day, the primeval forests of Xuexiang are filled with naturally formed rime, tree hangings, various snow pile shapes and beautiful snow mushrooms. There are also some natural landscapes such as Tianjing Lake, Wucai Pool, Mushroom Street, Tree House Zone, Forest Tribe, and Birch Forest. Under the cover of white snow, they form an indescribable dreamlike beauty.
At night, Xuexiang is even more bustling, with lights and colorful decorations everywhere. Snow mushrooms are particularly charming under the illumination. Everyone makes dumplings, rolls oatmeal noodles, spreads rice cakes, dances the yangge (Chinese folk dance), and performs the Guozhuang (Chinese folk dance)—a scene reminiscent of the Manchu Lunar New Year. If you're lucky, you might even see Santa Claus parading on his sleigh, a sight that feels like stepping through time and space into a fairytale world.

The Colorful Forest International Resort Hotel is located 80 meters away from the entrance of the Colorful Forest Scenic Area in Shenxian Valley. It is built according to five-star standards. There are two ice slides at the main entrance of the hotel. It is the only special hotel in China that can be entered and exited by ice slides.
The hotel offers a variety of room types to choose from, including standard rooms/triple rooms/business rooms/family suites, etc., which can meet the needs of different accommodation tourists.
All room types are larger than those in other hotels of the same level, and the family suites are equipped with spacious living rooms and mahjong tables for entertainment.
The floor heating temperature in the room is fixed at around 21 degrees to prevent a large temperature difference between indoors and outdoors, so as to avoid catching a cold. Of course, if you feel that the temperature is not warm enough, the indoor controller can also be adjusted, which is quite humane.
People in the north love to eat dumplings, especially in winter. They make dumplings to entertain their relatives and friends during festivals or when friends come over.
The hotel I stayed at offered a small kitchen where I could experience making dumplings. People gathered in the brightly lit corridors, and no matter where you came from, you became close friends. Besides the hands-on experience, the restaurant also prepared a sumptuous dumpling banquet with seven or eight flavors, including carrot and beef, venison with mushrooms, fennel and egg, and pork with scallions.
The Bashang Grassland boasts a unique noodle dish: oatmeal. Oatmeal is flour made from oatmeal. Fengning oatmeal is a specialty of Fengning County, Chengde City, Hebei Province. Oatmeal is a nutritious crop, boasting the highest protein content among cereals and a balanced composition of all eight essential amino acids.
Fengning oatmeal noodles are rich in nutrients and can be eaten in a variety of ways, including kneading, rolling, rolling, and currying. Whether it's oatmeal fish, oatmeal pancakes, or cat-ear nests, they're all delicious. In the Bashang area, oatmeal products, made with the alkaline water of the Bashang region and traditional methods, have a unique flavor.
The most famous delicacy on the grassland is roasted whole lamb. Many people come to the dam to enjoy the vast and boundless beauty of the grassland, and the most enjoyable thing is to eat an authentic roasted whole lamb on the grassland.
Roasted whole lamb is a delicacy served on the grasslands to entertain distinguished guests. It is crispy, tender, fatty but not greasy, and leaves a lingering fragrance. The roasted whole lamb is also eaten in a unique way: picking the skin, meat, lamb chops and other parts directly from the lamb.
The Bashang grasslands are lush with grass and water. The mutton hotpot here features carefully selected, tender ingredients, evenly sliced paper-thin meat, and a variety of flavorful seasonings. The meat is fragrant and not overpowering, and can be eaten immediately after boiling, boasting a pure, fresh, and delicious flavor. In the freezing winter of Bashang, a copper-pot mutton hotpot warms the body and whets the appetite.
The Manchu people of the grasslands are warm and generous, treating everyone as a guest and never being ambiguous in their treatment of friends. A large pot of succulent black pork stewed with cabbage and vermicelli was generously portioned, and the meal was enough to last me three bowls of rice.
The colorful forest in the early morning was a bit chilly, and the wind blew off the distant mountains, revealing the vast expanse of the land. A day's plan begins in the morning, and a beautiful day begins now. I ordered hot water from the hotel and, facing the rising sun, experienced the process of pouring water into ice at the entrance. Shivering in the 20-degree below zero temperature, I bounced and danced, creating the most beautiful and heartwarming moment in the sunlight.
This is one of the most interesting experiences in Xuexiang. As a northerner, riding a horse-drawn sleigh seems like a distant memory. It takes about 8 minutes to get to the designated location from the Colorful Forest Visitor Center. You can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. If you want a little more excitement, you can also go horseback riding.
There are twelve different Manchu totem pillars at the entrance of the forest area. The totem pillars are composed of the water god, fire god, Hercules, wind god, direction god, and lightning god, which show the primitive worship of natural phenomena by the Manchu ancestors.
The twelve capitals are composed of the Manchu worship of animals, plants and gods, including the Saker Falcon, snake god, fish god, frog god, crow god, and other gods.
Snow is the soul of winter. When it falls heavily, the world is covered in silver and everything takes on a different look.
The endless valley is filled with dense forests, with flying catkins and white snow all over the head. Seeing the jade trees and silver flowers on the wide river is like a dream. After playing in the snow dance, you will realize that Qiongdao Yaotai is just a fairyland on earth. Perhaps the dreamy snow town comes from this.
Rows of straight pine/fir trees are covered with a layer of shiny white sand, swaying gracefully in the breeze; on the bare branches, the bare trunks sway, standing proudly against the wind and snow, allowing the snow and fog to hang strips of rime flowers of different lengths and shapes on them.
We took a horse-drawn carriage and walked to the end of the park, which is the Manchu Culture Park. There are in-depth displays of Manchu folk culture, including daily life such as food, clothing, housing and transportation. It's a pity that it was under renovation and maintenance when we went there, so we didn't get to see it inside.

This 5-kilometer-long wooden plank road, though now devoid of vibrant flowers, is a simple and carefree experience. The wooden plank road weaves through the jungle, passing Tianjing Lake, a small artificial viewing lake. However, the lake is now completely covered with ice and snow, and the boundary between it and the land is unclear.
The distant mountains have become thinner, no longer lush and green, but have become deep and restrained, with the majesty and height they deserve; the water of Tianjing Lake has also been recycled, no longer running in turbulent waves, but hiding under the ice, tinkling and tinkling, turning into a steady stream; the trees, flowers and grass have also temporarily stopped growing, restoring the original posture of life.
There is a trestle bridge winding across the lake. Looking around from the bridge, you can see the snow-capped mountains, the same color as the sky and the earth. From afar, the mountains in the snow valley are cold and the water is thin, and it is hazy and boundless, like a quiet ink painting.
At the end of the pier is a children's playground built into the jungle called Boonie Bears. The animated series "Boonie Bears" is incredibly popular, and children love the characters. This real-life version of Bald Qiang's home in the jungle is perfect for families with children.
The beautiful artificial landscape of the Five-Colored Pond evolves its sixth color in winter. White is the purest color, the most tolerant and tender. It embraces all colors and blends with them. Just like the colorful forest, no matter what season you visit or where you come from, you can enjoy the most beautiful scenery here.
In winter, Mushroom Street looms faintly in the dense forest at the far end of the wooden boardwalk. Now, all you can see are fairytale-like mushroom sculptures and small houses. But in late August and early September, when mushrooms are at their peak, this place transforms into a haven for delicious mushrooms. Pick mushrooms freely from the mountains and bring home a truly authentic wild delicacy.
The dense birch forest, dappled with light and shadow, creates a harmonious and beautiful contrast with nature. A wooden plank road runs through it, and the dazzling sunlight shines through the swaying birch trees, creating a warm and peaceful atmosphere.
Climbing up to the viewing platform, the ground was covered in snow, and the nearby forest looked like it was covered in a thick white carpet. Dry treetops quietly poked out most of their bodies from the snow, embedded in the white sponge, vivid and dazzling.
The Jungle Tribe, at the end of the wooden plank road, is a small world where nature, culture, flora and fauna blend together to create a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The tribe is divided into the Squirrel Tribe, the Hunter's Home, and the Deer Park. The upside-down house is the most obvious symbol.
The forest adventure tour ends after walking through the jungle tribe. It is some distance from here to the hotel. The hardened cement road is closer than the wooden plank road. You can walk back or take the electric car or train in the scenic area.
Located directly in front of the Colorful Forest International Resort Hotel, to the left of the visitor center, Shenxian Valley Ice and Snow Park is a specially designated area for winter travel. Numerous snow recreational activities, along with exquisite snow sculptures and igloos, create a brand-new and exciting winter family entertainment destination.
You read that right. This kind of scene that you have only seen on TV can also be experienced here. The only difference is that the dogs are fake, but they are very realistic and look particularly funny when they run.

One of the most thrilling experiences in the entire ice and snow park is to sit on the snow ring, lean back, close your eyes, and slide down from a height. As the slope rises and falls, the snow ring rises and falls and rotates, giving you a different kind of speed and passion.
