Wenzhou Taishun, a small town in southern Zhejiang suitable for weekend vacations

Preface

Taishun is a place that is both familiar and unfamiliar to me. I feel familiar with it because it is only about 7/80 kilometers away from my home. However, even though it is not far away, as a native of southern Wenzhou, I have never been here before.

My first impression of Taishun was nothing but mountains, winding roads crisscrossing one another, a true mountain town. Even though I'd done a lot of research before setting off, I was still a little excited. I spent a weekend just pressing the spacebar, switching to mindless mode, simply capturing the mountain city's beautiful sunshine and the lazy atmosphere of early autumn. Hello, Taishun! Nice to meet you! Please take care of me.

How to get there

Taishuncheck the details

Taishun County, one of the six counties under the jurisdiction of Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province, is named after the city's peaceful and prosperous people. It is known as the "Hometown of Ancient Chinese Covered Bridges" and the "Hometown of Chinese Tea." It boasts the Wuyanling National Nature Reserve, known as a "biological provenance bank," and the Chengtian Radon Spring Provincial Nature Reserve, renowned as a "holy water treasure land" and the "world's best radon source." Taishun boasts abundant tourism resources, including Feng'an Sea of Clouds, the Taishun Covered Bridge, Xu'ao Village, the Bao Clan Ancestral Hall, the Hu Clan Courtyard, the Shishui Dingbu (Anchorage Steps), the Chengtian Radon Spring, and China's longest cable-stayed bridge, all offering excellent options for independent travel.

Recommended month: All seasons

3243 recommendations, 3115 visits

1. Wenzhou and surrounding areas

Self-driving is the best way

2. Hangzhou and Shanghai

If you are going to a place a little further away, it is recommended to take the high-speed rail to Cangnan Station first, and then rent a car locally to drive around. It will be more troublesome if you do not drive yourself.

There are shuttle buses from Cangnan Station to Taishun, which cost 35 yuan per trip to the county seat. Along the way, you will pass by the Corridor Bridge Cultural Park, etc. However, switching between points will be more troublesome.

Yunlan Ranch

Beautiful fairytale villa

The Yunlan Ranch area is also the eastern gate of Taishun. The alpine ranch, Yiming milk source, big windmill and cute little cows are the labels of the ranch. The big windmill is the main logo of the ranch and it has a very Dutch style!

You can walk along the winding wooden plank road to the highest point of the ranch and overlook the entire ranch. I really like the two trees beside the plank road. They are very suitable for taking pictures with simple blank spaces and a full sense of loneliness.

There is also a small dairy farm here, with four cows mooing and grazing lazily in the fence.

The ranch isn't actually very big, but it feels so cozy that you can't help but want to slow down and just lie on the lawn, enjoying the sun and the breeze. There's also a mini climbing wall, a slide, and a small swing, all very childlike and fun.

If you're tired, you can rest at the Fir Grove Restaurant or the Magic House. The ranch is quite open and there's not much shade. If you're afraid of the sun, it's recommended to bring an umbrella or apply sunscreen.

Tips:

Address: Gaochang Village, Liufeng Township, Taishun County, with an altitude of about 800 meters, so the name Yunlan was chosen, which is quite poetic.

Tickets: 80 yuan for adults, free for children under 1.3

Activities:

1. Grass skiing: 10 yuan/time (this activity will be suspended during the autumn lawn maintenance)

2. Milking: 80 yuan/group

3. Making handmade nougat 50 yuan/set

Covered Bridges

Magical wisdom and craftsmanship

For Taishun, the covered bridge is a very representative golden business card. There are many covered bridges throughout the area, and there are also covered bridges of various sizes and shapes scattered in the countryside. Some are simple and plain, while others are exquisite and complex, but they all require exquisite old craftsmanship.

Such a large building spanning the stream was built without steel nails. From the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the present, it has spanned the long river of history, experienced many ups and downs over the years, and has been repaired many times but is still very solid.

The most representative covered bridges in Taishun today are the Beijian Bridge and the Xidong Bridge, known as the sister bridge combination.

Beijian Bridge, also known as the Sister Bridge, holds the impressive title of "World's Most Beautiful Covered Bridge." Its expansive stream, millennia-old trees, well-preserved historic dwellings, and long, winding paths paint a picture of peaceful times.

There are still many well-preserved old houses around Beijian Bridge. The Corridor Bridge Teahouse next to the big tree is one of them. It is a two-story old house with a wooden structure. There are a few tea tables. You can move a bamboo bench and sit under the big tree, fanning yourself in the cool air, and feed the fish with a bag of steamed buns. Let's talk about other things later.

Walking up the stone steps, you'll find local stalls on both sides, selling authentic snacks and local specialties. The most common local products here are various dried goods, such as bamboo shoots and dried vegetables. I highly recommend the chili sauce; it's delicious and goes especially well with rice.

A forgiving snack - green tofu, 5 yuan a bowl, with two flavors to choose from, spicy and sweet. The sweet taste is refreshing and has a light mint flavor, which is very heat-clearing and detoxifying.

Xidong Bridge is the younger sister bridge, about 200 meters away from the older sister bridge. After passing through a section of ancient streets, Xidong Bridge suddenly appears on the left side of the road. Compared with the older sister bridge, the younger sister bridge is slightly simpler, but it still has its grandeur. The three high pavilions in the middle, with flying wings, look like a sleeping dragon squatting here. The aerial view must be very cool.

Tour duration: about 1 hour

Lost Seven Houses

The perfect combination of ancient style and hot springs

It takes about half an hour to get from the Langqiao Cultural Park to the Lost Seven Houses check-in office. The car can drive directly to the parking lot of the B&B. The brothers and sisters at the front desk are very enthusiastic.

Nestled in the ancient village of Tatoudi, this guesthouse feels secluded and independent. Renovated from seven ancient dwellings, the property was renovated and restored using modern living concepts, preserving the original while preserving its original beauty. This approach allows ancient craftsmanship and architecture to be better embraced by the present, resulting in the iconic scenes of Sunset on Yunfeng Peak, Spring Dawn on Songshan Mountain, Rain in the Tea Forest, Sunset Returning to the Pond, New Spring Songs, Mist Shrouded the Paths, and Moon Reflected in the Jade Pond.

厝 = "home" and "residence" in Minnan dialect

Three of the seven courtyards are currently under restoration. Through the gaps in the wooden houses, one can still get a glimpse of the predecessor of this hot spring resort B&B: partially collapsed beams and overgrown courtyards. It is hoped that after the restoration, the scenery of the past can be restored.

Standing in the village, I didn't quite get the feeling of the mansion's grandeur. But when I reached a high point and looked down at the entire village, I could tell what it meant to be a wealthy family. The mud walls and black tiles gave it a slightly imposing appearance, while the interior had an ancient-style core.

The public areas outside the rooms are also more Zen and ancient in style, with three tea areas of different styles.

In addition to hot springs and ancient style, another thing that attracted me was the free Hanfu experience. You can wear Hanfu on a time-travel journey. There are many styles to choose from, warm and elegant, and there are also styles for men and children.

Tips:

Address: Tatoudi Village, Yayang Town, Taishun County

Cost: around 400-1000

Rooms: Currently 17 rooms. The rooms on the first floor all have private baths, and some large houses also have public baths.

Meals: Main meals are also available, but reservations are required. There are also small private rooms. Breakfast time is 8:00-9:30

Hanfu: Free for hotel guests

White Crane Villa

A great viewing platform on Feiyun Lake

The gate of Baihe Villa looks old, but there is a different world inside the scenic area with rich contents.

Special note: There are two parking lots in the scenic area. The lowest parking lot is usually used to park tour buses. If you come by car, you can drive up directly for about 300 meters after buying a ticket. It is a long uphill section and it is quite tiring to walk up.

After you get up, you can see this super long suspension bridge in a very conspicuous place - it is more than 300 meters long and 48 meters high. When you walk to the middle, you can see a very wide view. Below is the emerald green Feiyun Lake. When the cruise ship moves slowly, you can occasionally see fish in the river jumping out of the water.

Tips:

Tickets:

The first entrance ticket to Baihe Villa is 50 yuan, and there are other activities in the scenic area that are charged separately

Colorful round boat: 50 yuan/limited to 2 people (half hour), white round boat: 150 yuan/limited to 4 people (half hour), bamboo raft: 50 yuan/person (1 hour)

Parking: Free

Others: There is also a tent hotel in Baihe Villa, hidden among the green mountains and waters. The guest rooms are named after the twelve zodiac signs, which gives it a sense of wild luxury. You can experience it next time you come.

Wuyanling

The vibrant primeval forest

When you reach Wuyanling, you have almost reached the west of Taishun and are very close to Jingning, Lishui.

In this vast primeval forest, the national treasure, the yellow-bellied tragopan, lives, and there is also a special theme museum where you can learn more about science.

Tips:

Ticket price: 45 yuan

Opening hours: 8:00-16:30

Tour duration: The whole tour takes about 3-4 hours

Shanxing B&B

There is a house deep in the bamboo forest

I don't know if it was taken from that well-known ancient poem, but it is surprisingly and naturally appropriate. It is located in the deepest part of Zhuli Township, and there are no other houses further in.

The house is surrounded by mountains and fields. The rice stalks that have just been harvested are still spread out in the fields and piled up into haystacks. The stream at the door is gurgling and clear.

The overall style of the B&B is quite simple, but there are many heartwarming little details. I especially like the names of each room: Yunxin, Shuisu, Chuxue, Qiushi, Shexi, Runwu, Zhuyue, Jishan, and Xiaowu, each of which captures a small picture of life in the mountains.
