Mahuangliang Town is located in Yulin City, at the junction of the Mu Us Desert and the Loess Plateau. The filming location of Gulan County in the play is in Gaojiabao, Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province. After entering the city, several people went straight to the guesthouse, which was the state-owned hotel in Gaojiabao.

Tongwan City is the ruins of the capital of the Great Xia Kingdom established by the Southern Xiongnu noble Helian Bobo during the Eastern Jin Dynasty. It has experienced countless vicissitudes of life and still stands in the vast Mu Us Desert.
The construction of this capital was very "brutal". It was made of "bricks" made by mixing glutinous rice and soil and steaming them. It is said that there were human bones inside!
