Liupanshui, a niche tourist city in Guizhou, is officially certified as the "Cool Capital of China". It is fun, delicious and refreshing!

Preface

It's so hot, so hot, so hot that people all over the country want to live in the refrigerator. But there is a place where people actually "live" in the refrigerator. Not only do they not need air conditioning at night, they may even need to cover themselves with a quilt. If you don't believe me, just look at the temperature.

Don't doubt it, we are really in the same time and the same country. The average temperature here in summer is only 19.7℃. It has been awarded the title of "China's Cool Capital" by the China Meteorological Society. It is the only city in the country named after its climate characteristics. It is officially certified!

Cloud-top grasslands, spectacular waterfalls, shocking fissures in the ground, and deep canyons. Walking into Liangdu is like walking into a landscape gallery with scenery in all seasons.

There are different ethnic groups in one mountain, different customs in every ten miles, and different habits in every hundred miles. Each has its own beauty, and they all share the beauty. When you enter Liangdu, you will enter a unique and charming cultural garden.

Mutton noodles, pan-fried pot, tofu cake, steamed cake, jelly, glutinous rice chicken, chicken hot pot, when you walk into Liangdu, you will enter a delicious city where your taste buds will blossom.

This is Liupanshui, Guizhou, a place that is not well known to many people and rarely appears in travel guides. Don’t want to be “steamed and baked” by the high temperature in summer?

I have summarized all the fun things to do in Liupanshui for you!

What to do in Liupanshui!

-Wumeng Grassland-

Wumeng Grassland is the highest and largest grassland in Guizhou. It is also home to Niupengliangzi, the highest peak in Liupanshui, which is 2,857 meters above sea level and is also one of the five highest peaks in Guizhou. The scenic area is inhabited by ethnic minorities such as Yi, Bai, Miao, and Buyi.

Wumeng Prairie is also an important wind power base in the Wumeng Mountain area. Countless windmills dance with the wind in the sea of clouds, which is romantic and spectacular.

By the way, because the sea of clouds appears frequently, under suitable conditions, there will occasionally be magical wonders such as the Buddha’s light!

At the turn of April and May, thousands of acres of alpine dwarf rhododendrons bloom on the Wumeng grassland, stretching endlessly.

In summer, the flowers have faded, the grass is dense, cattle and sheep are everywhere, and the cool breeze is blowing, which is perfect for escaping the heat.

-Ye Yu Hai-

Yeyuhai National Tourist Resort consists of three parts: Yejiping, Haiping and Yushe National Forest Park.

Haiping Yi Village has earthen houses with unique Yi architectural style. The thatched roofs and red earth exterior walls are its biggest architectural features. The walls are painted with Yi totems, Yi children singing and dancing, and cultural patterns, which embody the blood and family affection of the Yi people.

Haiping Yi Village holds many traditional ethnic festivals every year, including the Mountain Worship Festival, Torch Festival, Yi New Year, Whip and Drum Competition, etc., with grand scenes and rich atmosphere.

Yushe National Forest Park belongs to the branch of Wumeng Mountain and is located in the upper reaches of the Pearl River system. It has a maximum altitude of 2,503 meters and is currently the highest forest park in Guizhou Province. There are more than 1,000 species of plants in the park. It is known as the "Cool Capital Emerald" and "Natural Oxygen Bar". It has lush forests, green mountains, beautiful waters, beautiful trees, strange rocks, dangerous gorges and strong emotions.

Due to its unique geographical location, Yejiping is particularly suitable for stargazing, so there are many resort hotels here, which are suitable for staying overnight and deeply experiencing the beauty of this place.

-Tuole Village-

Experienced travel enthusiasts should know Tuole Village, where there are more than 1,200 ancient ginkgo trees, most of which are over 300 years old. It is the place with the highest growth density and the best preservation of ancient ginkgo in the world, so it is known as the "Hometown of Ancient Ginkgo". The oldest tree king has a history of nearly a thousand years. This ginkgo tree has witnessed generations of people in the village and is still full of vitality today.

In fact, in the summer in Tuole, the ginkgo trees are lush and green, covering the sky, which is the most refreshing season of the year. In the secluded green shades and beside the flower paths, there is always a sense of peace and tranquility, which makes you feel cool in the summer and fragrant at every step.

-Third Line Museum-

There is another place in Liupanshui that is worth visiting - the Third Line Museum.

Around 1964, the international situation was relatively tense. Based on war preparedness considerations, the government decided to gradually change the layout of my country's productive forces, shifting them from east to west.

From 1964 to 1980, the state deployed 4 million workers, cadres, intellectuals, PLA officers and soldiers, and tens of millions of migrant workers in the central and western parts of 13 provinces and autonomous regions, which belonged to the "Third Line" areas.

Under the call of the times of "prepare for war and famine for the people" and "good people and good horses go to the third front", they packed their backpacks, waded through mountains and rivers, and came to the deep mountains and canyons and deserts of the southwest and northwest of the motherland. They slept in the open air, carried things on their shoulders, and built more than 1,100 large and medium-sized industrial and mining enterprises, scientific research institutions and colleges and universities with hardships, blood, sweat and their lives.

Because of this policy, Liupanshui City has undergone earth-shaking changes. In order to commemorate the great achievements of the "Third Line Construction", on August 17, 2013, the only museum in China with the theme of "Third Line Construction" was built and opened in Liupanshui.

The museum houses a collection of representative production tools, daily necessities, historical documents, pictures, etc. from the "Third Line" construction period, and reproduces the production and living scenes of that time through miniature scenes.

We cannot imagine what price the people of that era paid in order to stop being bullied, but fortunately there are museums that allow more people to see and remember this history.

What to eat in Liupanshui!

In Guizhou, a province known for its noodle dishes, almost every city has its own representative bowl of noodles, and Liupanshui is no exception, that is Shuicheng Lamb Noodles.

A bowl of mutton noodles with boiling hot mutton soup, spicy chili oil, delicate meat slices, and white jade rice noodles will make the person who eats it sweat profusely but still want more. It is the best choice for breakfast for locals.

Laoguo is the absolute king of midnight snacks and one of the most popular foods in Liupanshui. It is similar to hotpot in that both are suitable for a group of people to sit around, order their favorite dishes, and then eat while chatting.

The so-called grilling pan is traditionally a frying pan with a slightly raised center. This design is really great. The fat from the meat will automatically flow to the edge of the pan, giving a bit of a grilled feel without being too greasy. The fat can also enhance the flavor of the vegetables on the edge of the pan. The person who invented this is really great!

The dipping sauce is the soul of hot pot. The hot pot restaurant I visited last time had four different kinds of chili powder for the dry sauce alone. Some were more fragrant, some were spicier, and some were just for added flavor. Each one served its own purpose. I was stunned! I just had to sigh: when it comes to chili, Guizhou people are just as good as Sichuan people!

Imagine a cool summer night breeze, with sizzling pork belly, tender potatoes, bubbling tofu, and eggplant soaking up the fat on the griddle in front of you...

Served with spicy and fragrant dipping sauce and icy sweet ice jelly, ah, what else in life could you not want!

In addition to the two above, there are countless snacks and delicacies in Liupanshui, so I won’t list them all for you. I’ll just post some animated pictures to make you salivate!

Conclusion

This is Liupanshui, a cool and charming little town, the perfect choice for a summer trip. Are you tempted? Let's go!
