Recommended niche water activities around Guangzhou, seasonal only, so you can cool down in the summer without leaving the province!

Preface

There are several water play routes around Guangzhou that you definitely don’t know about. Let’s get to know them together!

Ziyun Valley

Ziyun Valley is located in Lanke Mountain, southeast of Dinghu District, Zhaoqing City, within the Xijiang Lingyang Gorge Provincial Nature Reserve.

Arriving by ferry, stepping foot on the land feels like a paradise. The stream beneath your feet is crystal clear, the bottom visible. Moss-covered rock walls appear beside you, and lush bamboo forests and hillsides covered with wildflowers suddenly fill your view.
There are also worthy lingering moments: giant rocks suspended in mid-air, shadows in the sunlight, the soothing chirping of cicadas and birds, and an intoxicating breeze... The tranquil scene constantly shifts, leaving you breathless.

The unique natural scenery is overwhelming, with pools, strange rocks, and pearl-like water formations. Wade through the stream, search for jade and gold, and journey upstream past numerous natural landscapes and waterfalls.
Tianqing Pond, Tiaojian Pond, the Purple-backed Amaranth Reserve, Shengui Pond, and Bingwen Pond blend seamlessly into nature.

Phoenix Rock, Guta Rock, Xuande Rock, Chaotian Rock, and Mazikeng are surrounded by green mountains, winding green mountains, and green waters, just like a natural picture.

Tips:

1. Take a boat across the Xijiang River from Xijiang Fish Pier, which takes about 10 minutes to reach the Ziyun Valley Scenic Area. 2. You can choose to eat lunch in the scenic area, prepare your own meals, or have a meal with friends at a farm (Ziyun Valley also has authentic farm restaurants). 3. Swimming partners must bring swimming gear, as Ziyun Valley is the perfect place for swimming and tracing the river.

Equipment list: river trekking shoes, change of clothes, water gun (ladle), snacks, mosquito repellent, etc.

Dafeng Gate

Dafeng Gate is located in Baishui Village, Zengcheng. It is like a piece of green jade inlaid between the Baishuixian Waterfall Scenic Area and the Nankunshan Scenic Area, with the Tropic of Cancer passing through it.

The area is dotted with breathtaking peaks and clear waters, canyon rapids, forest lakes, glacial mortars, peculiar rocks, waterfalls and deep pools, ladders to heaven in the mist, and hot springs with reclining Buddhas. It combines the best of China's renowned mountains and rivers, yet is unique and breathtaking.
Our river tracing route this time took us through one of these scenic valleys, and the journey through it was truly captivating.

Recommended itinerary: Cycling and lotus viewing in the morning, enjoying delicious roast chicken. In the afternoon, enjoy river tracing and an ATV or CS game.
Directions from Guangzhou: Xiurong Farmhouse (Liantang Village, Zengcheng District). Upon arrival, rent a bicycle from the farmhouse owner and cycle through Liantang Village to admire the lotus flowers.

Equipment list: long-sleeved quick-drying clothes, a swimsuit and spare clothes, a backpack, river trekking shoes, a hat, sunglasses, a camera, and sun protection sleeves.

Gulong Gorge Rafting

Gulong Gorge rafting is one of the most exciting rafting activities in Guangdong.

The Gulong Grand Canyon, with its thousand-meter drop in elevation, offers a unique rafting experience, featuring waterfalls, deep pools, unique rocks, jungles, and rare plants. Its cliffs clash, towering peaks rise, and rapids flow. Known as a "roller coaster on the crest of the waves," Gulong Gorge rafting boasts an average gradient of 9.5%, surpassing the 7.5% average gradient of the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon.
The most thrilling experience is the "Dragon Looking Back" section of Gulong Gorge, a dramatic 180-degree turn that resembles the Yarlung Zangbo River's majestic U-turn. The towering cliffs on both sides create a formidable barrier, creating a formidable situation where one man can hold his own against ten thousand.

This morning, we'll raft and
navigate our way to the Gulong Gorge Scenic Area, departing at 8:00 AM and arriving at 10:00 AM.
Tickets are 109 yuan per person, and lockers are 30 yuan each (disposable lockers).
The 6-kilometer rafting trip takes about an hour. We recommend packing a lunch break, as the area is often crowded and there won't be time for lunch.

The afternoon
Beijiang River cruise costs 10 yuan per person, and you can dine and watch karaoke on board.
After about a half-hour cruise, you'll arrive at Feilai Temple, where you can visit the temple, go hiking, or just enjoy the river breeze on board.

Equipment list: sports shoes, slippers, swimming goggles, waterproof bag

Tiger Valley Rafting

The Tiger Valley Passion Cave Rafting course covers a total of 5.5 kilometers, with a total drop of 338 meters, a 38-meter drop, and 68 drop locations. "Dancing with the peaks and forests, rejoicing with the Nine Heavens," you can enjoy the thrill and coolness of rafting on a rubber boat while sharing the magnificent peaks and forest scenery and admiring the splendor of the Nine Heavens.

The Tiger Valley Happy Cave Rafting is 2.8 kilometers long. At the forest oxygen bar of Jiuchongtian, the scenery is pleasant and the sky is fresh. You can play in the water and have fun with others.

The Nine-Layered Peak Forest is a scenic spot integrating Taoist leisure and health culture. It is located in the world-famous "First Peak Forest in the South" Ten-Li Gallery.

Special attractions: billion-year-old glaciers, ten thousand-acre forests, thousands of strange caves, hundreds of strange stone forests, Eighteen Arhats, Nine-fingered Turtle, Utopia, fairyland on earth... It combines the essence of Qingyuan's "rafting, underground rivers, and caves" in one.

Itinerary reference: Light hike in the karst peaks in the morning, rafting in the Tiger Valley Scenic Area in the afternoon.
Navigation address: Huanghua Park, Qingyuan City

After arriving, we started a light hike to experience Little Guilin. The whole journey is 8 kilometers and is basically flat. Children and novices can participate.

We arrived at Wanpin Farm for a group meal around 12:00 PM. Their group meals were absolutely amazing, especially the white-cut chicken. My friends all praised them as delicious!
At 1:00 PM, we headed to the Tiger Valley Scenic Area for rafting. The entire 6-kilometer journey took about an hour and a half, with three dramatic drops. It was quite thrilling, and we even passed through a cave near the end.
Equipment list: sneakers, river trekking shoes, a change of clothes, swimming goggles, etc.
