Just how dry is the Taklamakan Desert? Located in the heart of the Tarim Basin in southern Xinjiang, it is China's largest desert, the tenth largest in the world, and the second-largest mobile desert. Covering approximately 330,000 square kilometers, it's nicknamed the "Sea of Death."
