Day 3: Guling Town → Wulao Peak → Erfeng Peak → Sandiequan → Lushan East Gate → Jiujiang Railway Station

All day

05:30 Wake up at dawn, wash, pack, and have breakfast at the hotel. Unnecessary luggage is placed on a cart and taken to the meeting point at the foot of the mountain.

06:00 Prepare to take a bus to [Wulao Peak] to watch the sunrise at Lushan Mountain and start today's light hiking.

Arrive at Wulao Peak at 8:30 AM. The ancient poet Tao Yuanming wrote, "I built my hut in a human world, yet there's no noise of carriages and horses." No visitor to Mount Lushan has been complete without visiting San Diequan. Li Bai's poem, "The cascading waterfall plummets three thousand feet, as if the Milky Way descends from the heavens," is a fitting tribute to the San Diequan Waterfall, one of the world's greatest wonders. The hike to San Diequan takes approximately 3-4 hours. In winter, the once cascading San Diequan waterfall is transformed into a shimmering, spectacular icefall.

We arrived at the foot of the mountain at 12:00, took a group photo at the foot of the mountain, and had a simple lunch in Haihui Town.

We dropped off at Lushan and Jiujiang stations at 1:00 PM. We were reluctant to leave and shared tearful goodbyes. We recommend purchasing tickets for trains departing after 3:00 PM.

Note: Today's hike up Wulao Peak has many steps, so you need to prepare knee pads and trekking poles.

Driving time: Guling Town to Wulao Peak is about 20 minutes

Note: Today's descent is mostly stairs, so bring your hiking poles. From San Diequan to the foot of the mountain, you need to take the scenic area shuttle bus to the East Gate of Lushan Mountain at your own expense, 10 yuan per person

1. Question: Is it convenient to get supplies along the way?

A: D2 is an outdoor hiking route. There are no refueling points along the way. We recommend bringing a moderate amount of high-energy snacks such as chocolate, beef jerky, and raisins for energy. Drinking water and snacks are available for purchase near the Lushan Xianren Cave by 11:00 AM.

There are many supply points along the way down the mountain on D3 where you can buy snacks and water. It is recommended that you carry a small amount of snacks in your backpack.

Question 2: What is the difference between [Lushan · Secret Realm in Poetry] and the regular tour group Lushan route?

A: Mount Lushan boasts stunning scenery and is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Traditional tour groups mostly offer a cursory, check-in approach. We believe the vast majority of outdoor enthusiasts want to experience the beauty of the outdoors and not just explore Mount Lushan that way. Our outdoor product manager shared this sentiment, so we delved into the destination and developed the "Lushan: Poetic Secrets" outdoor hiking route, ideal for the general outdoor enthusiast.

Route design: select the most beautiful outdoor sections of Lushan Mountain and choose the most beautiful ancient trail from many hiking routes, so you won’t miss the excitement.

The itinerary: [Lushan·Secret Land in Poetry] is a light hike where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. The itinerary covers the highlights of Lushan and includes exclusive arrangements to watch the sunset and sunrise of Lushan, leaving you with no regrets.

In terms of travel experience: the destination is gathered together, the itinerary is more relaxed and free, and the combination of group hiking and free activities makes the travel experience more comfortable.

Question 3: Can I complete this route?

A: Most people yearn for the breathtaking beauty of Mount Lushan. However, many wonder, is a hike there too demanding? Is it feasible? [Mount Lushan: Secret Poetry] promotes a light outdoor experience, allowing travelers to enjoy a more relaxed, comfortable, and natural hiking experience. The first day's hike involves a 5km hike, approximately 4.5 hours, on a combination of dirt roads and stone steps. The second day's hike involves a 7km hike, approximately 4.5 hours, on a descending stairway. For those who regularly exercise, consider completing the East China Huihang Ancient Trail and Wuyue Ancient Trail hikes on China-TravelNote.

Question 4: Under what circumstances can you see the Lushan waterfall clouds?

A: Usually there is a sea of clouds after rain! That is, after a few days of rain, there will be a sea of clouds on the first morning of the sunny day. On a sunny day, when it is hot, the water vapor in the air evaporates and surges upwards, forming a sea of clouds.

Mount Lu, also known as Kuangshan or Kuanglu, belongs to Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. Legend has it that during the Yin and Zhou dynasties, seven brothers of the Kuang family built a secluded hut here and later ascended to immortality. Their hut transformed into a mountain, hence the name. Located 36 kilometers south of Jiujiang City, it borders the Yangtze River to the north and Poyang Lake to the south. It stretches approximately 25 kilometers from north to south and 20 kilometers from east to west. Most of its peaks are over 1,000 meters above sea level, with Hanyang Peak, the main peak, at 1,474 meters. Guling Town, a mountain town nestled in the clouds, rises approximately 1,167 meters. Lushan, majestic and towering, is shrouded in clouds and mist. The mountain is dotted with springs, waterfalls, unusual caves, and rock formations, and is dotted with historical sites. With a cool and pleasant summer climate, it is a renowned tourist attraction and summer resort in my country. In 1996, it was listed as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The ancients said, "Kuanglu is the most beautiful mountain in the world." Since Sima Qian recorded Mount Lu in "Records of the Grand Historian," poets and writers throughout the ages have flocked to the mountain. Tao Yuanming, Xie Lingyun, Li Bai, Bai Juyi, Su Shi, Wang Anshi, Lu You, Xu Zhimo, Guo Moruo, and over 1,500 other poets have climbed the mountain, leaving behind many precious masterpieces. Su Shi's poem, "From the side, the mountain becomes a peak; from the front, the peaks appear different from each other; from far and near, the heights are different. I cannot see Mount Lu's true appearance, because I am within it," vividly depicts the scenery of Mount Lu and has become a beloved poem for thousands of years.
