Hiking along the ancient Qingjiang Riverbed in Lichuan, Enshi

Day 1 Enshi → Hiking starting point → Ancient riverbed → Enshi

All day

In the morning, tourists arrived at the meeting point (see instructions for Enshi, 10:30 AM at the train station in Lichuan) for a light hiking trip to the ancient Qingjiang Riverbed. Following a winding path, we gradually entered the ancient riverbed, passed through the Dalongmen Black Hole, and entered the large lawn, a filming location for many movies. After enjoying the scenery, the tourists continued their journey to Erlongmen and Sanlongmen, where they entered the ancient riverbed ruins.

Arriving at the ancient riverbed Stonehenge around noon, the tourists enjoyed lunch there before hiking the ancient riverbed. The folds of the stones transported us back 100 million years. The riverbed rocks require tourists to climb and jump, following the ancient Qingjiang Riverbed. We passed through the marvelous landscape of the Three Caves and Two Days Keng, feeling the powerful charm of water. Each of the three dragon gates bears traces of history, bearing witness to the hardships of modern mountain life. Returning at an appropriate time, we boarded the Lichuan shuttle bus to Lichuan Station, arriving around 4:00 PM. This concludes our tour, and the tourists bid farewell. See you next time!

Q: What do I need to prepare for hiking in an ancient riverbed?

A: Small backpack (for meals, drinking water, snacks), headlamp, hiking shoes or sports shoes (leather shoes and high heels are not allowed), knee pads, trekking poles and other hiking equipment (optional)

The Qingjiang Ancient Riverbed is a relic left behind after the diversion of Enshi's mother river, the Qingjiang River. The ancient riverbed boasts a comprehensive geological structure, a typical karst landscape. Its complex and diverse structure offers breathtaking scenery along the way. Caves, steep cliffs, and collapsed boulders abound, creating a miniature karst landscape. At an altitude of over 1,000 meters, the site features pristine jungle, alpine meadows, thousand-foot cliffs, picturesque river valleys, dry riverbeds, scree slopes, stone formations, and even river tracing and climbing opportunities. This route is a classic outdoor hiking route in mainland China, currently undeveloped and preserving its pristine beauty.
