Exploring the Niuhu Line | Hiking the Niuhu Line in Qingyuan: Discovering Tiankeng and the Grasslands

Day 1 Guangzhou → Niubi Village → Hudong Village → Guangzhou

07:00

Meet at Exit B of Ke Village. Please look for the yellow China-TravelNote flag and check in with your tour leader.

07:30

Depart on time (please do not be late). The team leader will explain the itinerary and precautions along the way, and organize a self-introduction session to break the ice and get to know each other.

10:30

Arrive at the starting point of the Niubi Village hike. After warming up, start hiking. After walking a section of mechanized farming road, you will pass through the primitive ancient road and experience the beautiful pastoral scenery (there is less shade from the trees, so be careful to protect yourself from the sun)

12:00

Arrive at an uninhabited ancient village and choose an open space to rest. Have a meal on the way to replenish your energy. After lunch, continue your journey and enter the reed marsh section. The reeds here are tall and dense, which are more likely to scratch you. Everyone should remember to wear long sleeves and pants (or short sleeves and sleeves) to protect their bodies. Then, walk down the rocky slope to a tiankeng, continue forward and cross a hill, and then continue along the ancient road all the way. Passing the ancient road and abandoned villages, you will arrive at Niuhu grassland. You can enjoy posing and exploring caves (depending on the water level on that day).

6:00 PM

After reaching the destination, we had a quick restock at the canteen and boarded the bus for the return trip. We arrived back in Guangzhou around 21:30. We kissed goodbye with tears in our eyes and promised to see each other again next time.

Driving time: Outbound: 190km/3h Return: 210km/3.5h

Hiking: Hiking distance: 13km, hiking time 5-6 hours, altitude 544 meters, cumulative climb 626 meters

Note: Due to the strong sun in summer, the route difficulty will increase and it will be upgraded to 2.5 stars

Located between Niubi Village and Hudong Village in Yangshan County, Qingyuan, lies the Niuhu Route, a breathtaking 13-kilometer hiking route. Winding like a ribbon through karst peaks and forests, it offers a glimpse into the rare, extra-large Fanzengdong cenote. The scenery is both breathtaking and pristine, and the centuries-old stone steps bear witness to countless stories of those who journeyed there. Along the way, you'll pass several idyllic abandoned villages, magnificent karst stone forests, countless picturesque peaks, paths blanketed by tall Miscanthus, and breathtaking canyon scenery. The scenery is truly breathtaking, making this one of Guangdong's few truly stunning hiking routes.
