Legend of the Ancient Road | Shaoguan Bazhai Day Hike

Day 1 Guangzhou → Bainiben (Renhua County, Shaoguan City) → Bazhai → Guangzhou

07:00

Meet and sign in at Exit B of Ke Village

07:30

We gathered and set off. The tour leader introduced the itinerary and precautions on the bus. The tourists got to know each other and sang and laughed all the way to Shaoguan.

11:30

Arriving at the starting point, the team leader will lead a warm-up exercise before starting today's hike. We'll enter the hiking trail, which is undeveloped and a primitive path for hikers. Along the way, we'll need to climb slopes and walk through bushes. Please be sure to wear long-sleeved clothes (or sleeves), a sun hat, and gloves. Trekking poles and knee pads are recommended.

12:30

After lunch at the reservoir, we will take a short break and then pass through mountain paths, streams, dense forests, etc., and appreciate the typical karst topography along the way. We will climb over a 15-meter-high steep cliff and arrive at the ruins of the mountain stronghold located halfway up the mountain. The only way to get to the mountain is a 15-meter-high hanging wooden passage carved by bandits on the steep cliff, which can accommodate one person. It is easy to defend and difficult to attack.

2:30 PM

Part of the way to Bazhai is a single, 80-degree, hand-carved stone staircase. A natural spring flows from a crack in the rocks at the main peak. Passing through a narrow passageway, you'll reach the summit viewing point (those not climbing the summit can wait at the fork in the road). The mountain scenery of Bazhai is breathtaking, like a fairyland on earth. Adjacent to Bazhai, Teapot Peak seems to have brewed a pot of premium alpine cloud tea, leisurely awaiting its arrival. It evokes a sense of transcendence and detachment, as if drinking with an immortal and observing the myriad phenomena of the world.

3:30 PM

Arrive at Bazhai Fairy Scattering Flowers, take photos, and prepare to go down the mountain (it is not recommended to climb to the top, as there are trees all around and you can't see the scenery. You can go down the mountain at the Fairy Scattering Flowers)

5:15 PM

Arrive at the entrance of Bazhai Scenic Area around 17:15. There are also some snack shops and farmhouses here (friends who need to eat should calculate the time in advance and can order a meal or fried rice and fried noodles). It is a good time to gather on the bus for the return trip and share beautiful photos together.

9:30 PM

Back to Guangzhou Kecun, we kissed goodbye with tears and promised to see each other again next time in the tourist world~

Driving distance: Guangzhou-Shaoguan 280km/4h

Hiking: The hiking distance is about 10.5 km. The road conditions are mainly mechanized farming roads, cement roads and mountain roads. The slope is large and steep, which is easy to hurt the knees. It takes about 4-6 hours. The highest point is 584 meters.

Note: This route is a fare-avoidance route. If you need to pay for the ticket, you need to pay for it yourself.

Bazhai: The highest peak in Danxia Mountain, at 618 meters, offers a breathtaking view of the typical karst landscape along the way. The only way up is through a 15-meter-high wooden passage carved into the steep cliffs by bandits, wide enough for one person to ascend or descend, making it easy to defend and difficult to attack. On one side of the passage lies a sheer cliff, and on the other side lies Teapot Rock, considered by hikers to be one of the most beautiful Danxia landforms.
