Red Maple Season: Stroll along the Huangnan Ancient Road and enjoy the colorful autumn terraces

Day 1 Hangzhou → Tiantai → Hangzhou

All day

From 7:00 to 7:30, we will check in at Hangzhou Huanglong Seafood Stall and board the bus for departure. The tour leader will interact with everyone along the way and we will arrive at our destination in laughter and joy.

We arrived at Tiantai around 10:30 AM and reached the village at the entrance to the ancient trail. The village is quaint, with a towering ancient tree at the entrance, resembling an elephant from the front and an eagle from the side. Here, we began the ancient bluestone trail, enchanted by the autumn breeze, flanked by towering maple trees. We took photos as we walked, first ascending, stopping at pavilions and ancient bridges for rest along the way. After about an hour and a half of hiking, we reached the summit, where we found a large terrace and the Jigong Temple. The old village nestled in the mountains, secluded from the world, was a great place to rest and recuperate.

Around 12:00, after a break, we started downhill. The scenery was very different from the previous uphill section. Looking down, the vast terraced fields surrounded the ancient village, making people feel like they were on Yuanyang Dragon Backbone. It was a visual enjoyment.

The entire hike takes about 5 hours, which is slightly shorter than the Huihang Ancient Trail.

Around 4:00 PM, we exited the ancient path and boarded the bus back to Hangzhou.
Around 7:00 PM, we returned to the Hangzhou departure point, signaling the end of our wonderful journey. Everyone was still unsatisfied and said goodbye with tears in their eyes.

Driving time: about 150 kilometers, 3 hours

Hiking: The walking distance is about 8 kilometers, the cumulative climbing is about 450 meters, and it takes about 4-5 hours

Huangnan Ancient Road: This ancient trade route between Tiantai and Linhai was once a major trade route. While not as famous as the Huihang Ancient Road, it boasts a lush landscape on one side, lined with towering maple trees, resembling an oil painting. On the other side, endless terraced fields, interspersed with ancient rice paddies, are particularly beautiful in spring, when the flowers bloom and the terraces are flooded. China-TravelNote organizes this route annually in spring and autumn. It's not a challenging route and is suitable for all ages. The scenery here is breathtaking, and photographers will likely be captivated by it and won't want to return. Highly recommended!
