Shooting against the light, the streams flowing across the beach transform into winding arteries, shimmering with a captivating silver glow. The experience is truly visually and artistically captivating, allowing us to further experience the allure of light and shadow on the mudflats. Afterwards, we'll check in and rest at the hotel. Day 2 Xiapu → Beiqi → Yangjiaxi → Salt Field

All day

Head to Beiqi early in the morning to capture the sunrise over the sea, the tidal flats illuminated by the morning glow, and the fishermen at work. Beiqi is a famous sunrise spot in Xiapu, Fujian, attracting numerous photography enthusiasts. Therefore, China-TravelNote will arrive early to guarantee a spot for every tourist. Beiqi is a prime spot for capturing the stunning tidal flats of Xiapu, renowned for its tiger-skin-like patterns and the shadows of fishing rods, people, and boats that fill the beach. At high tide, the bustling boats, the shimmering sea, and the distant mountains and islands blend seamlessly into a spectacular scene. At low tide, the beach's textures become more refined, and the sight of fishermen at work on the tiger-skin beach adds to the rhythmic and dynamic beauty of the tidal flats. At this moment, no matter the angle, the frame is captivated by the vibrant play of light and shadow, a captivating tidal flat that captivates countless photographers from home and abroad.

Afterward, we'll head to Yangjia Creek to photograph the banyan forest scenery. Yangjia Creek boasts a breathtaking beauty, with green mountains surrounding the emerald waters. Its pools, rapids, and shoals are interwoven with flowers, grasses, and forests. Shrouded in mist and rain, the ancient banyan trees appear even more tranquil and mysterious. In late autumn and early winter, the thousand-acre maple forest, with its vibrant crimson leaves, resembles a resting crimson cloud, a breathtaking spectacle that will leave you wanting to linger. Here, we'll arrange for a photo session featuring an elderly farmer leading a cow.

In the afternoon, we'll visit the Xiapu Salt Fields to capture the coastal scenery illuminated by the sunset. We'll also photograph the sunset from the Qingshan Bridge in the Yantian area. The focus here is on the rich cultural atmosphere of the Lianjia fishing boats. Lianjia fishermen are families who have lived on simple boats for generations, often carrying their entire family's possessions. They lead a difficult life on the sea, often called "sea gypsies." After the light fades, we'll return to eat and rest.

Driving distance: 40 kilometers

Note: Xiapu boasts a nationally renowned coastline, with each mudflat surrounded by mountains on three sides. This allows photographers to take advantage of the vantage point to better depict lines and colors. Since the shooting locations are relatively far away, a longer focal length lens (70-300mm or longer is recommended, and a wide-angle lens is also necessary) is often used to capture the beauty of the small space, so a tripod is essential.

Day 3 Mantou Mountain → Kasumigaura Train Station

All day

This morning, we headed to Mantou Mountain to capture the sunrise over the sea. The mountain's scenery, along with the morning spectacle of hanging oysters, connects with the horizon, creating a spectacular scene. This is a perfect spot for capturing sunrises and sunsets on the beach. You can also photograph the harvesting of kelp and the boats on the mudflats. Weijiang is also known as Mantou Mountain, named after an isolated, unnamed hill in the sea that resembles a steamed bun. It is now known as "Liaoli Island" and features a monument. As the sun rose, we continued to photograph the local culture and customs nearby. The oysters farmed along the Weijiang River's banks create a subtle, elegant color palette, and the black and white tones create a captivating visual experience.

After we had enough fun shooting, we returned to the hotel for breakfast and then arranged the shooting activities appropriately according to the weather and scene characteristics.

We concluded our enjoyable photography trip just in time and were driven to the train station. Everyone was still reluctant to leave, so we kissed goodbye with tears in our eyes. Remember to return and hand in your homework!

Driving distance: 50 kilometers

Note: Return trip instructions: After the morning shoot, you will be taken to the train station at around 10:30. Please book your return train ticket after 11:00 noon.

Q: Why does Xiapu mudflat attract the attention of countless photographers?

A: Xiapu's mudflats have indeed gained traction with photographers both domestically and internationally in recent years, with some of their work winning awards in national and international photography competitions. The endless allure of Xiapu's mudflats stems from what sets them apart from other landscapes. Xiapu boasts 404 kilometers of coastline, and over the course of countless years and tides, these mudflats have shaped their unique landscape. This is particularly true of the rapidly developing offshore aquaculture, where wooden fishing huts, small boats and nets, and bamboo buoys shift with the tide, creating a seamless blend of humanity and nature. This truly transformative scene has captivated countless photographers. Importantly, Xiapu offers unique vantage points for photography, which are unavailable elsewhere.

Q: What are the main issues that should be paid attention to when shooting in Xiapu?

A: The main considerations for photographing the Xiapu mudflats are weather, tide levels, seasonal labor scenes, and coordination. Rainy days are not suitable for photography, while overcast days allow for high-key shots. Sunny or cloudy days are ideal. Timing the tides is particularly important. For example, high tides occur around the first and fifteenth day of each month. Only after the tide recedes can the colors and lines of the mudflats be fully revealed, perfectly matching the light and shadows of the morning and evening. Combining scenes of fishermen working at sea with the natural environment makes the images more vivid. Another important consideration when photographing in Xiapu is safety. The shooting location is high, and the winds are strong near the coast, so you need to pay attention to the safety of both yourself and your equipment.

Q: Which season is ideal for photography in Xiapu?

A: The Xiapu mudflats are photogenic year-round, and each season offers unique subject matter and characteristics, so it's difficult to pinpoint a specific season. We know that the Xiapu mudflats are bustling with activity year-round, featuring fishing villages, the charming Lianjia boats, the return of fishermen, She ethnic customs, and the scenery of Yangjia Creek. Other seasonal activities include collecting razor clam fry in February and March, catching fish fry in April and May, harvesting kelp from late April to early June, planting hanging oysters from May to July, and seaweed cultivation, which begins in September and continues through the process of planting poles, clipping seedlings, and securing the trellises until the seaweed harvest, all the way to dismantling the trellises in January. The changing light and shadows before and after summer typhoons are also truly worth capturing.

Q: What equipment should I bring to Xiapu for photography? Are there any special requirements for cameras and lenses for photography in Xiapu?

A: Regarding cameras, my philosophy is to fight with whatever weapons you have. Digital cameras are flexible and convenient, while traditional reversal film offers exquisite image quality; each has its own advantages. However, I'd like to point out that lenses require some attention: wide-angle lenses aren't used very often, while telephoto lenses are relatively common. A 300mm focal length on a 135mm camera is sufficient. Also, with strong sea winds, a stable tripod is essential. A tripod is essential.

Xiapu: Named one of "Digital Photography's Top Ten Must-Visit Scenic Spots for Photographers," Xiapu's tidal flats are the heart of its photography. Xiapu boasts a unique blend of mountains, seas, rivers, islands, beaches, and forests, encompassing the She ethnic group. In addition to the bay-themed scenic area of Funing Bay Scenic Area, it also boasts Yangjia Creek, a "sea paradise" boasting ancient banyan trees and a forest of pure maple trees; Yantian Township, a concentration of Fujian's boat people; and the She ethnic group, a prominent minority ethnic group in Fujian Province. For the photography community, Xiapu is untapped territory, and its tidal flats are only part of the picture. A true photographer's paradise, Xiapu blends scenery and culture, creating a vibrant and vibrant photography experience.
