Arrive at Dakengkou, the starting point of Wenchang Ancient Road
The Wenchang Ancient Road is 6 kilometers long and approximately 1.5-2.5 meters wide. Its over 5,000 steps are paved with bluestone slabs. It passes through two mountain ranges, Wenshan Ridge and Baling, each over 600 meters high. Legend has it that this ancient road was built by a wealthy man from Wenshan Village in the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China to marry a daughter-in-law. The Wenchang Ancient Road served as a means for local residents to carry rice to Jingde. In its day, the road was a bustling one, dotted with pavilions, teahouses, inns, and shops. Even merchants from Zhejiang traveled along it on their way to Shexian, Jixi, and Jingde.

In the afternoon, we arrived at Yangchan Tulou, a village deep in the mountains of southern She County, boasting a rich history spanning over 400 years. Stretching from the foot of the mountain to the summit, over 300 towering buildings, their red, black, and white colors interspersed with vibrant colors, stand majestically. First-time visitors will undoubtedly be struck by the rows and rows of quaint, orderly structures. Bluestone paths connect the buildings, creating a picturesque scene. We went down the mountain at the right time and followed the mountain path to the more secluded Wangshan Village. Few outsiders came here, and the villagers looked at the passing hikers with curiosity.
Yangchan Tulou is a scenic spot that can be enjoyed all year round. In spring, you can enjoy the blooming rapeseed and pear blossoms on the Wenchang Ancient Road, the emerald green tea gardens between the mountains at the turn of spring and summer, the colorful autumn leaves and the drying of autumn leaves in various households in autumn, and in winter when the Tulou is covered with snow, the contrasting colors of yellow and white add a touch of winter warmth.
