Day 1 Nanjing → Tiewa Temple → Daoshidui → Nanjing

07:15

From 7:15 to 7:30, we will gather and sign in at Exit 1 of Andemen Station, Line 1 of Nanjing Metro, when we see the yellow China-TravelNote flag.

07:30

We set off on time. On the bus, the leader will arrange for everyone to introduce themselves, and there will be laughter and joy along the way.

11:00

We arrived at the ancient Baiyun Temple at the foot of Gaofeng Mountain, our starting point. Following the tranquil mountain stream, we soon encountered the spectacular Changtai Waterfall, the highest point on Gaofeng Mountain. We then reached the iconic Tiewa Temple check-in point: the fallen rock pile, stretching 300 meters along the valley. We had to hike through it, a delightful experience.

1:30 PM

We successfully reached the summit and arrived at the thousand-year-old Tiewa Temple, a paradise on earth on the top of the mountain. It is surrounded by ancient relics such as the thousand-year-old Podocarpus. After experiencing the Zen spirit, we found a suitable place for lunch (bring your own dry food, snacks and water, and remember to share).

4:00 PM

We arrived at the foot of the mountain and took a bus back to Nanjing.

7:30 PM

We will return to our starting point in Nanjing. Everyone is reluctant to leave and kisses goodbye with tears in their eyes!

Driving time: 3.5 hours

Hiking: 8km, cumulative climbing 800m, estimated time 4-5 hours

Tiewa Temple, formerly known as Baiyun Zen Temple, is located atop Gaofeng Mountain at the junction of Xuanzhou, Ningguo, and Jingxian counties. Construction began in the third year of the Zhenguan reign of the Tang Dynasty. Surrounding the temple are numerous scenic spots and historical sites. A stele inscribed on the temple during the Zhiping reign of the Song Dynasty reads: "In front of Tiewa Temple stands a thousand-foot-high peak. Atop it stands a Podocarpus carica, a hundred feet in circumference, eternally green and evergreen for centuries. A thousand-foot-deep pool, beneath which a dragon lurks..." In addition to the Podocarpus carica and the Dragon Pool, there are also the Supporting Rock, the Tofu Terrace, the Stone Cluster, the Ringing Stone, the Stone Buddha, the Lion Cave, the Five Constant Bodhisattva's meditation site, and the later-discovered Guanyin Rock, the City Wall, and the Pagoda Stone. Most of these attractions are breathtakingly magnificent, unique, dangerous, and secluded.
