Jiuzhaigou Huanglong Semi-free Tour

Day 1 Chengdu → Dujiangyan → Wenchuan → Songpan → Jiuzhaigou

All day

Meet at Exit E of Wenhua Palace Subway Station (Line 4/Line 7) in Qingyang District, Chengdu between 7:30-7:50 AM and depart at 8:00 AM. Please do not be late.

We got to know each other on the bus, leaving the Chengdu Plain amidst laughter and joy. We arrived at Dujiangyan's Panda Paradise, where we'd see and pet our beloved giant pandas. We'd then proceed through Dujiangyan into the Minjiang River Valley, the Tibetan-Qiang Cultural Corridor. We'd then pass through Wenchuan, the hometown of Dayu, Maoxian County, and the ancient city of Songpan (which we won't visit today, but will stay in Songpan County on the third day). This is where Songtsen Gampo married Princess Wencheng. Thanks to the rise of the tea-horse trade, this area was once a trading hub for the border regions of Sichuan, Gansu, and Qinghai, and a major transportation hub since the Tang Dynasty. We then continued our journey, arriving at the entrance of Jiuzhaigou Valley in the evening and checking into our hotel.

How to deal with altitude sickness?
Most people experience some degree of altitude sickness when traveling to the plateau, especially those new to the region. This is completely normal. As long as you're in good health, you'll quickly adapt to the high altitude climate and there's no need to worry about it.

For those new to the plateau, it's recommended to stock up on common medications such as Sanlitong, Rhodiola rosea, inosine oral solution, cold medicine, anti-inflammatory medication, and headache powder. The main symptoms of altitude sickness include headache, chest tightness, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, and insomnia. Generally, these symptoms gradually subside and disappear after one to two days.

However, those with severe heart or lung problems and hypertension should not travel to the plateau. Be especially careful of those who are aggressive, competitive, ambitious, self-centered, and possess a high self-esteem despite their physical strength! Avoid common respiratory illnesses such as colds and fevers before departure; conserve your energy.
1. Moderate consumption of butter tea, dairy products, and beef and mutton can enhance your adaptability to the plateau climate.
2. When first arriving in the plateau, get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, and eat plenty of fruit. Avoid smoking or alcohol. Avoid running or strenuous exercise. An oxygen tank may be appropriate, but oxygen inhalation is generally not recommended.
3. Eat in moderation and avoid overeating to avoid overloading your stomach. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and drink plenty of water. It is recommended to drink plenty of water in the morning before activities and drink plenty of water during activities, but in small amounts at a time. Avoid smoking and alcohol. Wear loose, warm clothing when traveling in the plateau. Due to the strong sunlight, it is recommended to wear sunglasses, a sun hat, and sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays. Also, please bring some snacks with you when you enter the plateau (note: chocolate, etc.)
4. The western Sichuan plateau is a special area, so please get along with your group and respect the culture and beliefs of the Tibetan ethnic areas.

Known as a "paradise on earth," Jiuzhaigou Valley is located in Zhangza Town, Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, in the southern section of the Minshan Mountains in northwestern Sichuan Province. It gets its name from the nine Tibetan villages within the valley, including Shuzheng, Heye, and Zechawa. Here, you'll find ancient Tibetan villages, stone mills, plank roads, and prayer flags. It's also home to towering snow-capped mountains, spectacular waterfalls, crystalline blue lakes, magical travertine shoals, and lush forests. But what's world-famous here is its water, a vibrant, mirror-like hue of deep blue, emerald green, and a dazzling array of colors. The water changes endlessly throughout the day and year, leading to the saying, "After visiting Jiuzhaigou, you won't want to miss the water."
