The Tongling Ancient Road, located southeast of Qiankou Town and Chengkan Town in Huizhou District, served as a former road leading from Shuyuan Village in the north and Chengkan Village in the east to Lingshan Village. With a history of over a thousand years, the road stretches over 7,200 meters. It primarily consists of mountain paths and sloping roads, paved primarily with granite slabs or muddy sand. Connecting three traditional Chinese villages, Chengkan, Lingshan, and Shuyuan, the Tongling Ancient Road offers breathtaking scenery of mountains, forests, springs, rocks, terraced fields, and bamboo forests, rich in Huizhou culture. The road features 47 unique Huizhou ancient architectural features across 10 categories, including ancient villages, streets, dwellings, ancestral halls, pavilions, memorial archways, bridges, and monuments. The road, primarily composed of stone slabs and dirt paths, offers minimal climbing and is in excellent condition. It passes through a forest of 550-year-old Castanopsis scleractinianus trees, each forming a single forest and shading the sky.
In spring, you can stroll through the rapeseed fields, in summer, the fields are full of sunflowers, and in autumn, the ancient trail is covered with a large area of ginkgo and sweetgum forests, and the autumn colors dye the mountains and fields. The Tongling Ancient Trail is a cultural hiking route for enjoying the scenery in all four seasons.
3:00 PM
Upon arrival at Chengkan Ancient Town, everyone will have their own free time to explore. Chengkan is renowned for its unique Bagua layout and rich historical and cultural heritage, rivaling Xidi and Hongcun. Built on a hillside and facing a river, the ancient town sits west and faces east, facing Lingjin Mountain and backed by Geshan Mountain. The entire village's layout is based on the I Ching's principle of "the unity of yin (Kan) and yang (Cheng), the unity of nature and man." Fish lanterns are displayed at the Chengkan Yongxing Lake Autumn Sunshine Square.
The entrance fee to Chengkan Ancient Town is RMB 107 per person and needs to be purchased by yourself. If you do not want to visit Chengkan Ancient Town, you can visit the free area outside the ancient town or return to the hotel.
7:30 PM
After the tour, we will transfer to our hotel in Huangshan City and check in to rest. If there is a fish lantern parade in Chengkan Ancient Town in the evening, we will transfer you back to your hotel after the parade.

08:30
Arrived at the trailhead.
On a clear day, we'll ascend from the entrance of the Jingshe Ancient Trail in Jingde County, passing Tianxing Cave and Huihun Ridge. We'll reach Ruolingtou, the intersection of the three sections of the trail. Here, you'll find the remains of a garrison tower and the ancient Wanggong Temple, as well as pavilions, pass gates, and other ancient architectural remains. Standing at Ruolingtou, a thousand meters high, the breathtaking views of the towering mountains in the distance are truly magnificent.
The ancient trail boasts lush vegetation, towering ancient trees, and rolling bluestone paving, creating a rich landscape. Along the way, you'll find ancient trees, bamboo forests, tea plantations, ancient pavilions, passways, and ancient temples. The lush vegetation and rich cultural landscapes complement millennia of heritage, creating a harmonious blend of natural beauty and rich history. This is one of the best-preserved and longest-standing Huizhou Ancient Trails. The 17-kilometer route, with only a few sections of dirt road, is otherwise well-preserved stone paving. The climb is gentle and the road is in good condition.
The Jingshe Ancient Road, built over 1,400 years ago during the Sui Dynasty, is one of China's ten most famous ancient hiking trails. The entire route is Y-shaped, and this hike covers the upper "V" portion of the Y—the Jingshe Ancient Road and the Sui and Tang Ancient Road sections. The three ends of the trail connect Jingde County in Xuancheng, She County in Huangshan, and Huizhou District. The Jingde County section is known as the "Jingshe Ancient Road," representing the upper right section of the "Y." The She County section remains the "Ruoling Ancient Road," representing the lower half of the "Y." The Taiping section in Huangshan District is known as the "Sui and Tang Ancient Road," representing the upper left section of the "Y." However, these three routes are all one. The ancient road served as a crucial route for ancient Huizhou merchants transporting grain, salt, and mountain products. For thousands of years, officials traveled through this route, scholars took provincial and imperial examinations, merchants transported goods, and ordinary people exchanged family ties.
