Day 2 Kuala Lumpur City Tour

·morning

丨Itinerary presentation

Today, we'll begin with a visit to Kuala Lumpur's Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Merdeka Square. Built in 1897, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building served as the government office during the British colonial era. Its iconic 40-meter clock tower is a landmark. Merdeka Square is located across from the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. On August 31, 1957, the Malaysian flag was first flown there, symbolizing independence from British rule. A 100-foot-tall flagpole now stands at the flag-raising site to commemorate this historic moment.

While historical remnants are lost in time, the spread of cultural beliefs relies on the people's legacy. We then proceeded to visit Kuala Lumpur's renowned mosque, the Jamek Mosque (if the area is closed, we'll only see the exterior). Built during the British colonial era, the Jamek Mosque is the oldest mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

We then headed to the Mariamman Hindu Temple, which is famous for its colorful reliefs and statues and is one of the most ornate Hindu temples in Malaysia.

Next, we headed to Petaling Street, known as Kuala Lumpur's version of Chinatown. The streets are lined with stalls selling everything from Malay delicacies to Chinese clothing, fabrics, and even Chinese herbal medicine. It epitomizes Malay street life.

At lunch time, we arranged the local specialty [Nasi Lemak] for everyone.

In the afternoon, we'll first visit Kuala Lumpur's iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The Petronas Twin Towers are a landmark in the Malaysian capital, consisting of two 88-story towers connected by a bridge. They were once the world's tallest buildings, a record they held from 1998 to 2004, when it was surpassed. The towers stand 452 meters tall, including the height of their spire and spires. Their design draws inspiration from Islamic culture while incorporating innovative modern architectural concepts, showcasing Malaysia's youthful, modern, and balanced character.

Afterwards, we walked over the pedestrian bridge to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, a large shopping and entertainment center in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. It is famous for its high-end fashion, food, and urban leisure experiences. We can shop freely here.

Next, we headed to Jalan Alor, one of Kuala Lumpur's most famous food streets with a history of over 50 years. This street boasts over 100 varieties of food, including grilled chicken wings, Portuguese grilled fish, fried pork ribs, rojak, satay, tuna, pork porridge, assam laksa, herbal stews, seafood, dim sum, bak kut teh, and more.

After enjoying lunch, we first visited Ipoh Railway Station, which is known as the Taj Mahal of Malaysia. It is a typical building that combines Moorish and Victorian styles. Due to its unique architectural style and historical value, it has now become a railway museum. Various well-preserved old locomotives and carriages are parked on the platform of the station, providing travelers with a place to enjoy the railway style of the old era.

Next to the train station is the Ipoh City Hall, a famous landmark in Ipoh's old town. It has a slight British style because it is a white building left over from the British colonial era.

We then headed to the Birch Memorial, a square, English-style structure with statues representing Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, and Hinduism on each side, embodying the harmonious coexistence of these four religions. It's also a classic photo spot.

Next, we visited Concubine Lane, named after the row of shops that miner Yao Desheng gave to his second wife. These shops, dating back a century, retain their colonial-era appearance. More than twenty two-story houses, with faded wooden windows and dilapidated facades, exude a Nanyang-style atmosphere.

Then we drove to Penang.

About Penang

Penang is a federal state in northwestern Malaysia. Its capital, George Town, is a World Heritage Site, renowned for its colonial architecture, murals, and diverse culture. Penang boasts a high proportion of Chinese in Malaysia, with Chinese people arriving in Penang as early as the Qing Dynasty, making significant contributions to the local economy and society. Numerous Chinese-style buildings, a fusion of Nanyang architecture and Minnan culture, remain, representing a significant part of Penang's cultural heritage. This diverse blend of cultures makes Penang a vibrant and charming city.

Day 4 Penang Citywalk

·morning

丨Itinerary presentation

This morning, we'll embark on a Penang City Walk, starting with a visit to Mural Street. Penang Mural Street is George Town's "open-air art gallery." The murals here aren't just paintings; they're like old friends telling stories. From "Sister and Brother Riding Together" to "I Want Baozi," each one captures a glimpse into the lives of Penangites. As you stroll through the streets, don't forget to take a photo with the "grown-up" children depicted in the murals; they've become the face of Penang!

We then headed to the Peranakan Museum, a Penang time machine. Stepping into this century-old house, a fusion of Eastern and Western influences, it felt like stepping back in time to the golden age of Baba Nyonya culture. From the carved wooden bed to the English-style floor tiles, every exhibit tells the story of how the Nanyang Chinese used chopsticks to pick up Western cutlery, blending the two cultures into a rich cup of coffee.

Finally, we arrived at the Clan Bridges, Penang's "clan temple on the sea." These stilt houses, built on the sea, resemble floating time capsules. Zhou Clan Bridge, Lin Clan Bridge... each bridge bears witness to the courage of our ancestors who crossed the ocean. From the morning market to the fishing boats at dusk, the Clan Bridges are not only a piece of history but also a celebration of clan culture. Come and listen to the rustling of the tide beneath the wooden planks!
