Day 1 Shanghai → Ningbo Dongqian Lake → Baijiling → Shanghai

All day

7:15-7:30 Everyone signs in at the designated meeting point of China-TravelNote and departs on time. Interaction and itinerary introduction on the bus, laughter and joy all the way!

Around 11:00, we arrived near the starting point of the hike, finished the warm-up, and set off as a team.

12:00-16:30

Step onto the ancient mountain trail and start your hiking journey.

The winding path leads us through a crisscross of red maple and peach trees, like a flowing landscape painting. When we reach the archway of the Baijiling Ancient Trail, the weight of history washes over us.

As we set foot on this ancient mountain path, every stone seemed to tell a story of vicissitudes. Though narrow, it bore the deep marks of time. The path was not steep, ascending gently, giving us ample time to savor the scenery along the way. From the worship pavilion, the panoramic view of Dongqian Lake was breathtaking, a truly refreshing experience. After a brief rest, we continued on to the western section of Baiji Ridge.

The first half of this section of the trail consists of stone steps, with each step leading to a viewing platform. From here, one can almost touch the blue of the sky and the white of the clouds. The second half, however, becomes a dirt road, and the climb becomes increasingly steep, challenging our physical strength and perseverance. However, along the way, the few forks in the road allowed us to focus more on the path ahead.

The downhill trail passes by the lakeside path. The lifelike stone zodiac animals, stone tigers, and stone horses seem to be telling the bravery and power of the ancients, adding a rich historical heritage to this ancient trail.

The trail exit is right next to the Qianhu Hotel, which was a perfect end to our hike. Afterwards, we walked along the lakeside section, passing through the secrets of Qianhu Lake, and returned with a lot of gains and wonderful memories.

16:30 After the stretch, the whole team returned to the city.

8:00 PM We returned to downtown Shanghai. Everyone was still reluctant to leave and said goodbye with tears in their eyes!!

Driving time: Shanghai-Ningbo 3.5 hours

Hiking: about 9 kilometers, with a total ascent of 190 meters and a maximum altitude of about 212 meters. The ancient road section is easy to walk, and 1/3 of the lakeside section is a flat trail.

Dongqian Lake: A 4-kilometer-long embankment divides the lake into two halves. Surrounded by mountains, 72 streams converge here, forming a vast natural reservoir. During droughts, the sluice gates release water to irrigate farmland in eight townships in Fenghua, Yinxian, and Zhenhai. It also serves as a base for freshwater aquaculture, earning it the nickname "Wanjin Lake." Dongqian Lake originally boasted ten scenic spots, including Tao Gong Fishing Rock, Yu Xiang Book Tower, Hundred Steps of Greenery, Xiayu Locked in Mist, Double Rainbows Falling, Erling Sunset, Shanglin Morning Bell, Geese Sleeping at Reed Ting, Yinwan Fishing Lights, and Baishixianping.

The Baijiling Ancient Trail is located near Dongqian Lake. Its route covers several of the lake's most popular attractions: Xiaoputuo, Shangshui, the camping base, Mashan Wetland, and the Southern Song Stone Carving Park. The guidebook states that the trail has multiple entrances: east, south, and north. We took the north entrance, located next to Tianqi Valley. It's marked by a stone archway.
