Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten – A Hike With a View That Stays With You

Tucked away in the Punakha countryside, the hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten was one of the most rewarding parts of my Bhutan trip. I hiked all the way to the top, and though the trail had its ups and downs, the scenery along the way was absolutely stunning.

As I climbed higher, I passed through lush forests, winding trails, and some of the most beautiful rice terraces I’ve ever seen — cascading down the hills like green waves. The view from the top was something else entirely: panoramic vistas of the Punakha Valley, dotted with farms, rivers, and mountain ridges that seem to stretch endlessly.

The stupa itself is a beautiful example of Bhutanese craftsmanship, perched high above the valley like a quiet guardian.

If you’re in Punakha and up for a moderate hike, this one’s worth every step.
