If you're looking for a place to escape the hustle and bustle and fully embrace nature, Alishan in spring is the perfect choice. We woke up early with our children and took the famous Alishan Forest Train up the mountain to catch the sunrise. Although we didn't get a perfect sunrise, the dreamlike scenery of the train weaving through a tunnel of blooming cherry blossoms made everyone forget their sleepiness. Strolling along the Giant Tree Trail, the children were busy searching for the oldest sacred trees and breathing in the phytoncid-filled air. On the way down, we sampled local wasabi tofu and aiyu ice—simple yet delicious. This trip was a complete revitalizing experience for the whole family.
