Rainy Days & Artful Walks in Amsterdam 🌧️🌆🎨
Start your Amsterdam adventure in the heart of the city at Dam Square, pulsing with Western-style architecture and historic vibes. Even on cloudy days, the stately Royal Palace and the famous National Monument frame dramatic photo backdrops—especially from the northeast corner of the square with trams in view. Take a slow stroll, admire street performers and pop into a café for a warm stroopwafel as you watch rain dance over the cobbled plaza.
Next, head to the Van Gogh Museum (Museumplein 6): a must for art lovers. Plan for a morning visit when crowds are thinner and the light is perfect for photographing the bold murals outside. Within, immerse yourself in Van Gogh’s masterpieces—don’t miss “Almond Blossom” and the “Sunflowers.” Book tickets online, double-check their varying hours across the year, and keep in mind that entry costs €21.50. Take your time in the stunning glass atrium—great for architecture-vision shots with the rain glistening on the windows.
Wrap up your day at the poignant Anne Frank House (Westermarkt 20). The canal-side façade is especially atmospheric under gray skies—arrive early or book a late slot (open until 10PM) for fewer crowds. Inside, the preserved rooms and Anne’s diary pages offer a moving glimpse into history—photos are not allowed inside, so snap your exterior shots with the Prinsengracht as your backdrop.
Tip: Amsterdam’s weather flips fast—bring a compact raincoat, not just an umbrella. All three spots are within easy walking distance, but the charm of the rainy canals is best enjoyed slowly.
