[Thailand/Bangkok]

Wat Arun is considered one of the three great temples along with Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho.

Arun means dawn or daybreak, and it is the setting for Yukio Mishima's novel "Temple of the Dawn." Its appearance along the Chao Phraya River is said to be a representative scene of Bangkok.

Wat Arun is also depicted on the current 10 baht coin.

Many tourists visit the temple, and when I visited at the end of May 2024, there were people from various countries.

The most distinctive feature of this temple is that it is lit up at night, as shown in the photo.

I have posted three photos of the temple: in the evening, after sunset, and at night, but it is beautiful no matter what time of day you look at it.

Many people take photos from the other side of the Chao Phraya River that flows in front of Wat Arun, and you can enjoy the night view while eating at a restaurant.

However, you can take photos for free from Wat Pho Pier (the place where I took the photo is Wat Pho Pier). Pier)

After visiting Wat Phra Kaew, the Grand Palace, and Wat Pho, it's easy to go to Wat Arun, and you can take a ferry from Tha Thien Pier for 5 baht (about 20 yen) one way. 🚢

Wat Pho Pier is about a 5-minute walk from the Tha Thien Pier!
